The purpose of the Pre-Dental Society at UAB is to provide a source of information in order to educate and prepare students about the field of dentistry and various aspects of the dental profession. Membership is open to all UAB students interested in the field of dentistry. In addition, the society organizes field trips to dental schools, gives a mock Dental Admissions Test sponsored by Kaplan, offers a mentor/shadow program, and has guest speakers-- such as dentists and dental students--talk to our society. The group is also involved in community service as well as social events.
Membership is open to currently enrolled University of Alabama at Birmingham students, faculty, staff, alumni, professionals, and partners of previously mentioned groups. Currently enrolled University of Alabama at Birmingham students must make up 90% of the total membership of the PreDental Society. Non-student members will act as associate members of the PreDental Society. Voting membership is to be made up of only currently enrolled University of Alabama at Birmingham students.
The PreDental Society at The University of Alabama at Birmingham dues shall be fifteen dollars a semester and are subject to change by the executive committee.
First meeting will be January 18th at 7:30 PM in the Director's Conference Room in the Sterne Library. Dr. Filler, Dean of Admissions, will be our speaker.
Impressions Program will be January 22nd from 9:00 to 3:00 at UABSOD. This is a great opportunity to meet with students and faculty including Dr. Filler and Dr. Thomas, Dean of UABSOD. You also get to do fun lab stuff inculding drilling on fake teeth and doing your own impression! A free tee-shirt and lunch are provided!

The second meeting will be February 22nd at 7:30 PM in the Director's Conference Room in Sterne Library. The speaker will be Dr. Michelle Robinson, Associate Dean for Dental Informatics. Dental Informatics is a newer branch of dentistry that deals with the application of computer and information science to improve dental practice, research, education, and management.
Also, remember that dues are $15 per semester, and we are selling t-shirts for $10 if you would like one! Just bring your money to the next meeting!
The third meeting will be March 22nd at 7:30 PM. Our speaker will be Dr. Hsu, Associate Professer of UABSOD and Director of Undergraduate Complete Dentures. If you went to the Impressions Program, you met him there and learned he is highly entertaining. It should be an interesting and fun meeting! This meeting will again be located in the Director's Conference Room in the Sterne Library.
The fourth meeting will be April 19th at 7:30 PM in the Sterne Library, Room 174. Our speaker will be a pediatric dentist.
Elections for next year's officers will be at this meeting. If you wish to run for office, you must contact Carolyn Cochran via facebook message or email (carolc87_uab.edu) with your intent to run. Positions available are President, Vice President, Secretary, Treasurer, and Historian. If you are a newer member planning to run, please run for one of the lower offices. Elections will be held during the meeting so you need to be present to vote and to run or a good excuse is required.
