Ash Wednesday is the beginning of Lent. Lent is the six week period leading up to Easter. Christians use Lent as a
time for prayer, repentance and fasting. Ash Wednesday gives us the opportunity to freely confess our imperfections to God.
The ashes that will be placed on your forhead are a symbol of the sins you wish to rid yourself of forever. The symbol of the cross on your forehead is a sign of commitment to God. It is also a reminder that from ashes we came, and to ashes we will return.
Ash Wednesday should remind Christians that they are sinners in need of a savior, and that their salvation comes at the sacrifice of God's Son.
