Bio
Pacific Northwest artist Tricia Kittredge has been perfecting her skills with ink for about 35 years. Well known for her animal portraits, she also does still life, landscape, portraiture and figure studies. She is self taught and has developed a style that is unique to her. The Michigan native has been living in Washington and Oregon for over 30 years and currently lives in South Salem. Her subjects are first photographed under her direction by her husband, photographer, Don Anderson then rendered on watercolor paper using light fast colored inks. Technique
What is Stipple?
Stipple or pointillism is a technique of dots or lines to create the image. The Tonalities are created by the size and concentration of the dots. The closer the dots, the more intense or darker the area not unlike a halftone photo reproduction. Most of Tricia's pieces are created with fine point crowquill dip pens using colored lightfast inks. Some pieces may also include brush work or pastel. What makes Tricia's work unique?A close look at one of Tricia's pieces will reveal many layers of ink colors blended to create the final colors and tones, again, not unlike a halftoned color photo. Most pen and ink artists work with black ink and if using color, add a watercolor wash. Some of her works are fairly large for pen and ink, up to 22"X30", larger than the average pen and ink work.
