About Us
In the fall of 1988, Angie Schlieff felt called by God to form a different kind of women’s social club. She ignored the call as long as she could because she was a member of another women’s social club at the time. She struggled and prayed over this decision for a while; then she began the process that would create Tri Chi Women’s Social Club. After obtaining the necessary information from the Dean of Women Students, the first thing Angie did was write a letter to the other women’s social clubs. She simply asked if any of their members would be willing to join her in chartering this new club.
The response was overwhelming, and with members of other clubs and previously independent students, Tri Chi was formed with 22 charter members. These women deliberated over creating a new constitution, choosing colors, and deciding on a macot. Because the club was new, it did not participate in Rush of 1989. Instead it held an induction period which attracted 12 new members. In 1990, TC participated in Rush and accepted its first pledge class of 21 girls.
And the rest is history...
Tri Chi truly is a club focused on serving others. Our focus has become such that we serve in our community as well as around the world. One of my favorite quotes on service comes from Winston Churchill and states, “We make a living by what we get, but we make a life by what we give.” Tri Chi has definitely helped me to foster a love of serving others through our philanthropy program. This past semester, I was given the opportunity to serve through the International Mission Board for five months in Naples, Italy. While I was there my sisters were a constant encouragement and support to me. On some of my toughest days I would get notes and emails from Tri Chi girls who were praying for me back home. I love being a part of a group of girls who give so selflessly of their time and talents.
Some of our favorite service projects include: Tiger Serve Day, spending time with the girls at the Promise House in Little Rock, Ar., sponsoring children through Compassion International, and doing projects around Arkadelphia through the Elrod Center.

TC. Two simple letters, worn by many different women all over campus. They all have different backgrounds, have different personalities, and see things differently. But it is all these differences that make those two letters mean something.
When I came to OBU, I had no intention of pledging any club. I thought that if I did, I would lose my identity and become just another number. Yet, for my own reasons, I chose to pledge Tri Chi, and I found out that I was completely wrong. I did not lose who I was, but I was given the opportunity to truly be myself. I had no idea when I pledged that God would use this decision to change my entire college career. I know that sounds cliche, but it's true.
Through Tri Chi, I have found friends that will always be there for me, always love me, and (most importantly) always keep me accountable. Because of my sisters, I found a place where I could be myself, where I could laugh, and where I always feel loved. But, more than anything else, my time with these beautiful women whom I call sisters has shown me that those two simple letters do not define me, rather that together, as sisters, we define "TC."

Blossoming into a social butterfly was not an expectation of mine upon entering college. I have always been a little shy and reserved, but I had a desire to be involved in something bigger than myself, and being a part of Tri Chi has allowed me to find friends not only within the women of TC, but also throughout the rest of the school. Through mixers with both boys and girls clubs, I have bonded with special ladies in other clubs, and I have found great friends in the men’s clubs as well. From boiling crawfish, to rollerskating, to creating slip’n slides, to throwing paint wars, there is always a new way to relax, have fun, and get to know new people.
Yet, Tri Chi has also allowed me to get to know people from all walks of life on campus and in the community. From throwing 80s TWIRP, to participating in Tiger Tunes, we have bonded with our entire school. We have even braved the Reddies and served hot chocolate for our opponents at Henderson State during the Battle of the Ravine. Tri Chi has truly allowed me to become more involved on Ouachita’s campus, and I cannot wait to experience all the memories to come.
