"..The brain controls our thoughts, feelings and behaviors, which in turn causes those struggling with past hurts to act in ways that are hurtful to others. The 'Hurt Mind' will cause humans to feel things that we cannot control, and our minds will go places where it may ruin marriages, families, and the example we should show our children. RBT will help heal the "hurt mind" so that the "hurt mind" once again has control over thoughts, feelings, and behaviors..." (Dr Jerry Mungadze 2007)
The Concept Behind Right Brain Therapy
In a study by Martin Teicher that was published in Cerebrum (2000), he cited that childhood abuse and neglect results in permanent physical changes to the developing brain. These changes in brain structure appear to be significant enough to cause psychological and emotional problems in adulthood. They were able to identify four different abnormalities in the brain that were much more prevalent in adult survivors than in adults who had not been abused.
One of the abnormalities that research has sighted was hemispheric lateralization. In other words the Corpus Callosum which joins the right and left hemispheres decreases in size, causing loss in the connection between right and left hemispheres, and the right hemisphere which is normally involved in the expression and understanding of nonverbal communication, gets overly activated.
This overrides the activation of the left hemisphere; which is responsible for functional activities such as reasoning and problem solving. This leads to the over stimulation of the right hemisphere, which heightens the functional activity of the client. The decrease of activation in the left hemisphere and the frontal lobe affects the Brocas area making it hard for the client to verbally communicate what they are experiencing or feeling.
...the Neural pathways that control the basic functions we need to surviveheartbeat, temperature control, breathing, are already connected at birth, but many more pathways are determined by the greatest environmental factor in our lives: Learning. Although the brain flexibility may decrease with age, it remains plastic throughout life, restructuring itself according to what it learns... (John J Ratey)

Must I attend both Trainings in order to get my certification?
I am considering RBT to incorporate into my practice. How does RBT differ from EMDR? I am considering both.
Yes! Part I explains the functions of the brain, and how those parts are affected by trauma. After the first training there are practical applications that must be applied to your clients, and then sent in a written report with a short test at the end.
RBT would not replace EMDR techniques instead learning RBT would make the professional's practice of EMDR more effective because RBT sheds light as to why and how EMDR works. RBT helps the professional assess how the client perceives their environment, and themselves on an ongoing basis.
These perceptions are recorded symbolically in all the different parts of the brain as the information passes through all the different areas of the brain involved in processing thoughts, feelings and behaviors.
RBT techniques then takes this information and uses it in therapy designed to help the individual gain awareness of their different perceptions and the fall out of the different problems and issues present in the individual. While EMDR is a therapist driven technique, RBT is client driven; self empowerment through education and the client taking responsibility to "retrain" their own brain and learn to manage the different responses and reactions.
While EMDR seems to be somewhat of a hypnotic technique, Right brain therapy is a conscious driven process that covers everything from perceptions, cognitions, affect, sensations, and behaviors. While EMDR seems to be helpful with desensitization and reprocessing like in traumatic memories, RBT adds to the desensitization, reeducating the brain and prevention of memory flooding,
What is RBT centered on?
RBT is centered on an evidence based program curriculum, written from 20 years of research; on the brain and its response to negative reactions from environment, family influence, and/or genetics. The program curriculum is based on research in the field of PTSD, Neuroscience, clinical experience, case studies, exposure therapy, guidelines of the ISSTD, and the ISTSS

God has a desire to see us live our lives full of joy and service to him. However sometimes there are issues in our lives that bring us frustration, anxiety, hurt, and isolation. II Timothy 1:7 says; For God has not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a Sound Mind. God wants us to have a peace within our mind, body, and soul so that we can have the life he meant for us to have. His desire for us is to live without fear. Fear of facing our past, fear of loving the way God intended for us to love, fear of forgiveness and power through the sword, Love of ourselves and others, and of having a sound mind.
Come learn how to achieve a sound mind in Christ at our seminars and workshops. Fill out the contact form for more information!
