I started Geocaching Spring of 2003 and within a couple of years, I realized I was going to grow weary of chasing caches for the sake of a number count. In 2006, I started the HOTM with the sole purpose of getting out once a month and chase a trail using Geocaching as a means to an end. Within the first year it turned into a big hit and has spun off 4 other hike of the month efforts. The current thread for HOTMs in 2010 can be found here.

January HOTM
Gold Creek, WA Snowshoe Hike
Hiked: 01/08/11Rating: Easy - A creek crossing is the only real challengeDistance RT: 6 milesTrail conditions: Mostly clear with 48" snow. Ungroomed Sno-park pass req'd.TH Coords for this hike:N47° 23.3722' W121° 22.8154'The hike got off to a late start as the Groundspeak lackeys did some pre-hike videography with setting up for the hike and interviewing myself and Mariam. Reid did an an awesome job editing the video and took some great shots to really showcase our snowshoeing. I'll let the video be the blog that was showcased on Groundspeak's Latitude 47.
Upcoming Hike
RE-Scheduled to 7/23/2011
Saturday the 23rd I'm planning on a location that's intrigued me over the years.Stegosaurus Butte. There are other caches on the way, but IF I find one, I'll have to skip the rest until I reach the target cache to make that 400. It's a small hike with a stiff elevation gain. Afterwards, a leisurly stroll on the NE side of it to pick up some other caches may be at hand.I intend to be at the trailhead by 7:30AM with a go time of 8AM. Parking is at N47 32.865 W121 32.220 Don't forget your forest pass.
