Your turtle's journey begins here...
Treat your turtle's spirit, mind and body to a complete and extraordinary reviving, de-stressing experience at Tortuga Haven you can be rest assured that any turtles or tortoises that come to our facilities will have the best care and the absolute best chance in life possible.
Tortuga Haven consists of several different facilities, Each facility is run by a caring, loving, experienced individual. Each facility interacts with each other and shares a vast amount of knowledge and information from which charges in our care will benefit. While it is true that many that come through our facilities are eligible for wild release there are always those that are not. Those that are not eligible are placed into the adoption /rehoming program and found appropriate, loving homes.
The philosophy at Tortuga Haven Houston is a simple one.
From Freedom it came - To Freedom it shall return.
All living creatures deserve the best possible life. And that it shall have.
Rescue -Those animals in need of medical
attention.
Rehabilitate - and re-aclimate those that may have lost some of their natural skills after a long captivity, poor conditions or long illnesses.
Re-Locate & Release- when the natural environment is no longer a safe haven for the animals in question. Release in a safer environment.
Re-Home - For many reasons pets are surrendered. Loving homes are found for these pets.
Educate - Provide as much information as possible to the public.
Raise Awareness - At every possible opportunity.
Together we can
** Before you get a pet Turtle or Tortoise PLEASE do your Homework. Research the pet you are considering before purchsing or adopting.
**Reptiles are a long Term Commitment. The average Box turtle should live more than 20 years with proper care. In some case even 40-60 years. The average tortoise may live for 80+ years with proper care.
**A captive bred, non-native, or long term captive cannot be released into the wild later when you are tired of it. Immunitties are usually specific to the area in which the animal was born. The reptile you relase may either die of
illness that it has no immunities to or transmit a new illness into the wild populations to which has been released. This is bad for both sides.
** It is often harder to place full grown and larger reptiles than the "cute" little babies that may grow into "large" reptiles. PLEASE think before you purchase.
** Know your State Laws before purchasing
a pet from an out of state entity.
