Saving the Environment
Problem
Our environment is something we have looked past for a very long and have not taken the precautions to keep it safe. One of the biggest problems that the government overlooks that can really potentially harm our environment is emissions testing. The U.S. is the biggest consumer of fossil fuels and the biggest contributor to global warming in the world which means the U.S. needs to take the proper steps in order to make sure the environment is preserved.(5) People don't realize that global warming contributes to making weather more damaging, damage of food production, and can cause the extinction of different species(3) It is expected that China will catch up with us in 50 years to catch up to the U.S. with its negative effects on global warming.(3) This website contains information on how some states have made improvements to help out the environment with emissions testing and how we should come together as a nation to improve our emissions.
Why do we need emissions testing?
Emissions are what your vehicle gives off from burning fuel. There is a set limit by the law that only allows manufacturers to produce their cars to give off only a certain amount of emissions.(4) When vehicles get old, these emissions start to get worse though because parts start to wear down or break. The most common one that can lead to poor emissions is the catalytic converter. This is a part that is connected to the exhaust system of a car and makes sure that the set amount of emissions is maintained. Emissions testing can detect these problems and can tell if a car is not giving off the proper amount of emissions. It is a small thing that can play a huge part in maintaining our environment. It also makes our country look very bad because we are the worst contributor to global warming yet make no attempt to improve that at all as a nation.
