Founded in 2004 Balch Digital Photography offers full photographic repair, restoration and image manipulation services for all types of photographs, slides, negatives and transparencies. All work is carried out by hand in house under the supervision of photographer Tom Balch.
We pride ourselves on our personal, friendly service and our ability to tackle almost any photographic problem. Over the years we have experienced photos stuck to glass, liquid damaged photos, corrupt memory cards, torn photos, faded photos, cracked glass plate transparencies, slides in all states of repair and many more but nothing has yet been beyond us!
We can also convert 8mm cine film and almost all formats of video and camcorder tapes to DVD or digital files as well as offering printing services, scanning and copying services and slide/negative to digital services.
We appreciate that many photos we deal with are treasured family memories, whilst some have significant value, and as such we treat all photos with the utmost care and none ever leave our studio until you collect the finished version.
Restoration & Repair
At Balch Digital we specialise in image restoration and can bring any old or damaged photo back to life to reignite distant memories or to give to someone special as a perfect present.
We can work in almost any format, taking originals in transparancy, negative, print or digital format and can output photos in both hard copy print or in digital format.
We can stitch ripped or seperate images together to make one seamless image, repair tears, creases, fold lines or water or other liquid or chemical damage.
All images are electronically scanned so as the original will remain untouched. All work is then carried out on computer and a final version will be output either as a print (any size upto A3) or as a digital file on CD or via email.
Our prices are highly competative and all commissions are under taken on a bespoke basis and prices reflect the needs of the customer. If you want a set of slides printed in hard copy for a family album we can turn it around very quickly at a price to suit any pocket, while we can also undertake complex restoration on even the most faded, torn or damaged images
Slides and Transparencies
We can also restore, clean and scan to digital all forms of slide, negative and transparencies at resolutions upto 3600 dpi and to any realistic size.
Cine Film & Video
At Balch Digital Photography we can convert standard 8mm film and almost all types of video (VHS-C, VHS, Digi-Beta, Hi8, Betamax and more) into digital formats for playback on computer, the internet or DVD.
We also offer DVD' complete with menus, voiceover, music and titles for your footag and/or photos at very reasonable prices. Such projects are undertaken on broadcast quality equipment by Tom Balch who has vat experience in film editing.
Scanning & Printing
Whilst primarily a restoration and design based company we obviously have the facilities to scan any original image (film, negative, positive or reflective) and also to print to any size (width limited at 44 inches) in 8 colour HP Vivera inks.
We are a bespoke company offering a skilled and high quality service and are not set up for long runs of scanning, however if we can fit it in we will take on such projects but can not compete for price against low cost internet scanning services (equally they can't compete with us for quality!).
Graphic Design & Image Manipulation
We are able to remove elements from any photo, the unwanted passerby, or the ex you'd rather forget can be cloned out of an image, whilst we can remove red eye and lens flare and correct exposure and colour balance. Conversely we can also add people from different images together into one.
We can also offer basic graphic design services in producing posters, presentations or other such media.
Balch Digital Photography grew from my work as a location scout after I became frustrated with the extortionate prices charged to retouch my images at commercial photographic studios. As a result we aim to exceed customer expectations at prices that won't empty your wallet! All work is carried out by hand to the most stringent quality control. We take great pride in making every image as good as it reasonably can be within a given time frame.
All work is carried out at rates which I feel reflect the skill, care and artistry involved in bringing the best out of an image. Every image has a story to tell and it is that which we keep in mind when working on any image, however mundane.
So if you have wedding photos, old holiday snaps or other old photos that have seen better days that you would like restored to look as good as new just give us a call or drop us an email. We can accept photos in digital format on CD or by email, in hard copy or negative, by post or personal delivery.
Price Guide
It is almost impossible to give an accurate cost for a repair before seeing the image(s) in question, however we always try to work with the customer to be competative and fair in our pricing while reflecting what we believe to be one of the best end products you will find in this area.
As a guide for restoration work we charge £20 per hour of work plus material costs.
For scanning to digital we charge between 60p and £1.50 per image depending upon the level of work to be done and the time the scan takes.
Basic clean and tidy of images starts between £5 - £10 per image.
Cine film can be tranferred at £20 per hour of footage plus a £20 set up fee.
Printing costs vary dependant upon type and quality of the paper and the inks used but basic prints start from as little as £1.50 per image.
