This week the Web Communications team has been doing a great a job checking and responding to emails and updating pages, such as the 'Artreach' page. We are trying to separate the 'process' page into phases, (phase 1 and phase 2) so exploring and editing will be easier when our new goals and teams are created.
This week there was not much to do, with having group members gone on trips. Though, Gmail managment did a great job at making sure all emails were checked and responded to. We updated progress summaries and are waiting until next week to update our artreach page.
This week we were able to check and respond to Gmail efficiently. We also updated the group progress and every journal entry is fresh from this week. We have also prepared for the ArtReach coming up on Dec. 8th.
This week we posted all the group's reports. We had our trails field trip, and were able to capture and post pictures onto the website on a new field trip page.
We fixed the small flaws on the website. You can now read the text better and we have a visitors count. We're pretty much ready to launch. We got contact with the transportation director about getting a map of the Telstar trails and they said that they would forward the message to the Building and Grounds supervisor. We are still waiting on a report.
This week, the gmail team has done an excellent job at checking and responding to emails. The website is almost complete, we are just trying to make it an easier site for people of all ages to work with. We should launch it by this week, and we need to find pictures as well as music.
Our design leader has done a wonderful job so far. Group work documentation has been going great, but we need to work on staying on task sometimes. We think were doing a good job, and we can do better.
This week, we formed our group and assigned team member responsibilities. We will be checking the group?s e-mail and we are designing the project?s website. We are almost ready to launch it. We are building it using Wix (www.wix.com).
We continued thinking about the details to consider when making a trail, and we began writing a list of questions for the trails committee.
This week we started thinking about the trail proposal that we will have to make. We talked to Ms. Russel, and asked her to give us information on making a trail proposal. Since we can't start working on the trail till the spring, we will try to get everything done over the winter, so we can start working immediately when the snow melts.
On Sunday, the 28th of November, 2 students from the Adv. Art class went to the ribbon cutting opening of the Gateway trail extention. They told about our project and were in features on the front page Thursday's Bethel Citizen newspaper. You can see the article here: http://www.bethelcitizen.com/node/5966
This week, we met with Mr. Rice, Ms. Russell, and Mr. Siegel to look at maps of the Telstar property and get a plan for our field trip. Mr. Mike Cooper, an experienced trail builder, volunteered to help us with the field trip. Also, Ms. Bonnie Pooley from the Bethel Trails Committee also volunteered to help. On Friday, we
went on the field trip and talked to Ms. Gunther about building a trail on her land. She said yes. And we used GPS systems to map out the trail we plan on building and the Telstar trails. We have two potential routes to Bailey Road and we're going to try to find out which one has the most potential for connecting to the Gateway extention trail.
This week we waited to hear from Mrs. Russell about a good time for her to come in to talk to us. We also did some research at the town office about the properties next to Telstar.
We talked to a land owner, they said that they don?t have enough room but gave us ideas on other places to go. We also contacted Kirk about trail stuff and talked to Ms. Russell, who is on the trails committee, and scheduled a time for her to come in to talk to our class about the trail and the work of the Trails committee.
Our class interviewed Kirk Siegel, a local attorney and former land trust chair with an extensive background in land conservation and real estate law. He is also the parent of one of our class members. He has already been advising us with trail research. Jonathan Goldberg, owner of True North Adventureware (a business along the proposed trail route), was also part of the interview. We learned more about
the history of the Bethel Trails Committee. To learn more about the work of the BTC - visit http://www.thebetheljournals.info/Trails/Bethel_trails.htm
We also learned some about the process of trail planning and building. Mr. Siegel said we needed to be flexible and persevere to complete a project like the one proposed by the trails committee. The actual route of the trail is not determined yet, and depends on many...
variables like the permission of landowners, environmental impact, and even archeological concerns. ?Here is an article about the project from the July 14, 2010 edition of the Bethel Citizen:
?Work underway on Bethel Pathway Extension?:
http://www.bethelcitizen.com/node/3020
This week in the Trails Group we named the project.? We settled on ?Path of Perseverance.?? We have started a website for the project. It is a work in progress and we will share the link once it is done.? We confirmed the email list at the tmstrails_gmail.com. ?We designed postcards and posters to promote the ArtReach, and we set a date with Mr. Siegel to inform us more on making trails next Tuesday.
We talked to the some of the land owners and they said they had to talk to their insurance company before they let us build a trail on their land. ?They probably they won?t let us build on their land. ?Time for plan B (or C). ?The land goes out to the stream, we can build past the stream.
This week, we began collecting contact information for our team members to improve current and future communications.
This week, we used our list of resources to find possible ?next steps?.
This week in Advanced Art we worked on trying to organize a day in art class to walk the proposed trail with a Land Trust member. ?We also gathered a list of resources including websites, books, and people. ??Also we got a map of where the trail is supposed to go. Thisis a list of the website resources that we have collected so far.
This week, we contacted members of the Bethel Trails Committee to consult with them about the project. ?We identified the trail we would like to work to improve - the connection between the Telstar Trail system and the Davis Park trail. ?This is a project the trails committee has been wanting to complete for a few years and the connecting trail is less than a mile from Telstar.
This week, we wrote back to our classmate's mom and we are waiting for a response.
This week we focused on planning how to write a letter to our classmate's mom. And we participated in the artreach last wednesday.
We have found a website called http:/www.bestcancersites.com. It is a guide to many different cancer websites for information and support.
We have found a website called http:/www.standup2cancer.org and learned about what they do. That is what we have done this week.
This week, we got some new group members and assigned everyone's responsibilities. We looked for good cancer awareness and prevention web resources and looked for an online field trip site.
We continued to work on cancer awareness posters.
This week, we continued working on our cancer awareness posters.
We continued working on posters to help raise awareness of cancer causes.
We began working on posters to help raise awareness of cancer causes.
No news this week, as we need more information on the trail before we start working on the Relay for Life.
This film group is in charge of planning and producing a film to educate viewers about our project and inspire them to help! Look beneath to see how their latest project is coming along...
We have been working on getting release forms for our film, and will post it here and on youtube when we get all the forms back. We are also showing the film in the auditorium at the TMS Hero's assembly on Wednesday Dec. 22nd.
We finished our film and premiered it at the ArtReach. It got great feed back. We hope to post it on youtube as soon as possible!
This week the film team worked on completing the film. We edited clips and made an intro. We are happy to announce the film will be complete for the ArtReach which will be on Dec. 8th. Our film will premiere in the Telstar Auditorium at 6:30pm, right before the live art auction begins.
This week we interviewed Ms. Russell, got video/images of the trail field trip, and will be putting together a rough draft of the film by Monday, November 29.
This week in the film group we came up with more ideas for what we might like to film. We plan to shoot some of this as soon as possible. The trail
field trip may be in time to film.
We talked with Mrs. Prescott who helped us get an idea of how to film is supposed to look. We took what she told us and thought about how we could arrange it (A mental outline, soon to be put on paper). We also began editing the footage we took of the interview with Mr. Siegel and Mr. Goldberg.
This week, we formed our group and assigned team member responsibilities. We recorded Tuesday's interview with Mr. Siegel and Mr. Goldberg and also began the film outline.
This week we finished making thank you cards and we sent them out to the people who helped at the ArtReach.
The ArtReach was held this week; December 8th. The artworks were beutiful and the performances were great! We raised $1,100. We also designed the thank you card for the artists and will send it out next week. We are trying to raise as much money as possible, and there are still some artworks for sale by the middle school office.
This week we matted artworks and selected items for the silent auction. We also made decorations for the ArtReach, coming up next week - December 8th.
This week we printed out 100 copies of our flyers and hung them up all over Telstar. We also got our postcards printed out and we are going to send them next week and the week after.
This week we made a poster and a printed it out. We will be posting them next week.
This week we were mostly working on our project and are almost done with the welcome poster. We made a list of the people in our class and wrote down what they have to donate for the artreach and how far they have gotten. The ArtReach pageof this website has more information about this event.
This week, we formed our group and decided on team member jobs. On Friday, we met with a parent volunteer to plan for the ArtReach art auction ?call for art? mailing. We also started planning out how the rest of the event will go.

June 2011 -
We apologize for the lack of updates in the last month, but we were very busy finishing the new trail and planning for the Relay For Life. To view our final class reflection, click HERE.
This week we met with Mr. Cooper. He taught us the basics of making a
trail. We schedule the flagging field trip. And helped the relay for life team count pennies.
We are waiting for responses from land owners and some the other contacts. We must contact one other person. We have found sevreal people with post hole diggers. But none with flags.
Maureen went to the trails meeting and spoke to the people attending. Had questions answered. I think the meeting was good for the Trails Team. We didn't get hold of people who could make signs. We will try again later.
We did a great job of completing our weekly goals. We looked at different ways we can mark the trial with. We found out when the nest Trail meeting is and it's Thursday at 4.
This week we edited the draft of the trails proposal. We handed it in to Mrs. Russell, a member of the trails group.
This week we looked at some completed trail proposals. We then started on our own and have a rough draft and hope to edit it this week.
The team has been working on the trails proposal. The web communications team has been nominated to create the logo. We attempted to talk to people who can make signs, but could not reach them.
We met with Mr.Rice of the SAD 44 to see if they wouldn't mind taking care of the trail until we could connect it to the gate way trails. He said it would be possible. We also found a few creative ways to fill a field so it would look better.
We had a very successful week last week. We contacted Mr. Rice and had a meeting set up with him for February 8th. We were not able to find a
kiosk. And we have started thinking about land art.
This week we formed new groups and set goals.
