More information about our web and graphic design process and policies.
STEP 1: CONSULTATION
I'll take you step by step through the process. It is important to find out what your needs are, your expectations, budget and image. Whether graphic design or full service web design, I will make sure your site meets your needs in the immediate future.
STEP 2: PROPOSAL
Everything we discuss will be written down into a plan and delivered as a proposal for your approval. I may include an initial design to start the discussion. This will insure that your needs will be fulfilled in a timely manner without costly mistakes. Graphic designs may not need a proposal process depending on the complexity and longevity of the project.
As for payment, 50% is due prior to the start of the project.
STEP 3: PRODUCTION
Your are involved and informed of decisions on your project. If the proposal (and/or design) is approved, I will go ahead with the designing, coding and production of your site/design. Websites are your intellectual property and your involvement is crucial to the design.
STEP 4: TESTING
Live testing is done on a testing server to make sure your site looks and operates in a manner that is efficient, compliant to browser profiles, and pleasing to the eye.
STEP 5: HANDING OVER THE KEYS & FILES
After all links and designs have been tested, the last step is to hand over your manual, dvd files, and passwords. A brief training will be available for you if you choose (for websites only) and a 3 month warranty with our sites. Although it does not include site re-design or new graphics, I will service your site for repairs in coding, server apps, and security issues. These issues are not common and are discussed in your manual.
Now, all you have to do is contact me.
Graphic design has its own challenges that either make the process smooth or lengthy.
Process;
1- Provide requested/required information for project, deadline and contact information. Make sure you have read our policies and prices.
2- Provide 1/2 payment.
3- As drafts are submitted, respond promptly and with necessary revisions.
4- Finals will be uploaded via google docs, sent through email or a link to a download site. Backing up your files is the responsibility of the owner.
Prior to contacting Designbykiku.com:
1- Have as much information as possible for your designer. Such as color ideas, themes, sizes, file formats and layout ready.
2- If there is a previous history of what you do not want done to the existing file(s) - if any, notify your designer.
3- Have your copy ready for the designer to 'cut and paste' text into the design. Typically, designers do not provide copy and do not edit copy for your project. This applies especially to lengthy text.
Caveats to keep in mind:
Avoid texting information to your designer. Important information should be provided in either email, doc or pdf formats.
Flat fees initially include 1.5 hours of design with limited revisions (see services) and hourly fees include payment for the time necessary for additional revisions.
If no information is provided, client must pay for hours used to 'come up' with design regardless if you are using it.
Half payment upfront is required.
If it seems that initial quote will go over estimated time, another invoice will be sent to cover the additional time used. For example, if client pays a flat fee but has excessive revisions, client will be assessed the charge for additional hours used.
Fees are subject to change.
We reserve the right to refuse service.
There is a cancelation fee of $35 for canceling already designed projects. This is because our inventory of time is limited to those who are paying for it and those waiting to be served.
Backing up of files is the responsibility of the owner. Any lost files will not be replaced for free.

What is the difference between Personal and Business hosting/websites?
Personal websites and hosting are the perfect plans for artists, churches, non-profits, organizations that don't plan on large websites, future expansion or developed shopping carts needing large databases. This plan includes one free website domain for the life of the site and is able to host up to 6 websites on one hosting plan. See "Personal Plan details" on the Services page -- >>.
Business websites and hosting include all of the personal plan details plus a more robust server for larger websites able to handle ecommerce, more bandwidth, more server calls. About Hawaii Tax
In order for us to function and live in paradise, we have to pay taxes. One of those is Hawaii General Excise Tax which is applied to ALL sales whether in Hawaii or online. This can be passed on to the customer as taxes on our sales at 4.712% (Oahu tax rate.)
All prices on our site do not include tax. It will be applied after you add it to your cart after shipping (if necessary.)

How is Design By Kiku different from all other graphic/web designers?
Well, I am told that most graphic designers can't build websites and website builders don't have graphic design skills. Finding one that can do both saves you money in design fees and allows you to have the best design with funtionality!
I consider your whole business, as your website is the "branding" and identity of your business. Unless you are like me, most businesses can't afford to change their websites often and want one that will fit their company in the long term.

What is my design philosophy?
I love and worship Jesus Christ as my Lord and Savior. That being said, I believe that every design, code, solution, idea, shape , color, etc comes from him alone. The design YOU receive is what the Lord wants you to have. I am his humble delivery system, blessed to have the talent to be able to bless you with what you need for the season you are in. This is called PROPHETIC ART.
I don't advertise much and get most of my clients via word of mouth or whoever the Lord leads me to. I consider my work with you as worship to my Lord and will do my most excellent for Him-only. I need from you to contribute:
1. The information you need on your website including any pictures, logo, about info, images, passwords, usernames, address(es), phone numbers, emails, website name(s) & addresses considered, and everything you want on the site.
2. If you don't have a defined concept for your site , a logo or colors you want, we will need to pray for a design. I pray for the design anyway, but if you really don't have a clue, I need to know that too. We need to allow for that process.
3. Throughout the design process, I will need you to pray (if you are a believer) that the design, infrastructure, function of the code, and future of your site. THIS IS YOUR BUSINESS! If you want the full favor of God, this will definitely help.
4. I can build websites in one week or overnight BUT if I don't have all the info I need, it is less likely that any rush deadlines will be met.
