Speech-language pathologists work with individuals who may have cognitive-communication disorders, aphasia, dysarthria, swallowing difficulties, and voice disorders due to illness, injury, or changes associated with aging. The Speech Emporium can assess an individual's ability to communicate in his/her speaking, understanding, reading, and writing. We may also assess cognition including memory, orientation, safety, judgement, problem solving, and reasoning with everyday activities, as well as swallowing difficulties or dysphagia. Speech-language treatment is directed at helping the person communicate and function as safely and independnetly as possible when carrying out daily tasks.
