Jennifer Swearengin, MA, CCC-SLPJennifer graduated from the University of Houston with a Bachelor of Arts in Communication Disorders in 1999 and received minors in Psychology and English. She was a member of the Honors College and received the honor of Magna Cum Laude. Jennifer graduated from the University of Houston with a Master of Arts in Communication Disorders in 2001. She received the Outstanding Clinician Award from the University of Houston while attending graduate school.Jennifer's experience includes working in private practice, public schools, early childhood intervention, hospitals, and two aphasia research projects- "Intensive Speech-Focused Treatment for Chronic Aphasia" and "Treatment for Aphasia and Related Disorders: Subproject 3: Contrasting Treatment for Sentence Production Deficits."She has performed diagnosis and treatment of expressive language, receptive language, articulation, voice, fluency, dysphagia, oral motor functioning, and pragmatic disorders in children and adults.Publications include "An errorless learning approach to sentence production in aphasia." Journal of International Neuropsychological Society; Co-author on poster presented at the 3rd annual VARR&D Research Conference (2002) and poster and published abstract at the International Neuropsychological Society Meeting (Toronto, 2002): "An Errorless Learning Approach to Sentence Production in Aphasia;" Co-author on poster presented at 2003 ASHA Convention: "Impact of Different Stimulus Attributes on Narrative Discourse in Aphasia."Jennifer serves on the University of Houston Community Advisory Board and previously served as VP Finance for the Houston Association for Communication Disorders (HACD).Patricia Breaux, MS, CCC-SLPPatti graduated from Nicholls State University with a Bachelor of Arts in Communication Disorders in 1999. She graduated from the University of Louisiana at Lafayette with a Master of Science in Communication Disorders in 2002. Patti is certified by the Texas Board of Examiners for Speech-Language Pathology. Patti's experience includes working in public schools, private practice, and a rehabilitation center. She has performed diagnosis and treatment of receptive language, expressive language, articulation, phonological processing, oral-motor functioning, voice, fluency, dysphagia, and pragmatic language in toddlers, preschool, school-aged children, and adults. She has experience with individual and group therapy, augmentative communication (including picturesa and device based communication), social stories, play therapy, LINC (Language Intervention in the Classroom Setting), and the Kaufman Speech Praxis Treatment Approach. Patti has experience working with children with developmental delays, various syndromes and autism. She attends continuing education classes to remain current on the most up to date therapy techniques and approaches.Allison Bihm, MS, CCC-SLPAllison graduated from the University of Louisiana at Lafayette with a Bachelor of Arts in 2001 and received a minor in English. She then went on to pursue a Master of Science in Communication Disorders in 2003 from the University of Louisiana at Lafayette. Allison is currently certified by the American Speech-Language Pathology. Her experience includes working in the public school system, private practice, rehabilitation centers, and skilled nursing facilities. Allison has experience diagnosing and treating receptive language, expressive language, social/pragmatic language, articulation, phonological processing, oral motor function, voice, fluency, and dysphagia, and augmentative communication. She has experience with individual as well as group therapy. Allison has taught social skills classes to high functioning children with autism, as well as co-taught in the PPCD (Preschool Program for Children with Disabilities) classrooms. Kathy Ann Swiney, MA, CCC-SLP, BRS-FDMs. Swiney holds a Certificate of Clinical Competence in Speech-Language Pathology with specialty recognition in fluency disorders from the American Speech-Language and Hearing Association (ASHA). She received her A.A. from Stephens College, B.S. from the University of Missouri-Columbia and M.A. from Oklahoma State University. Ms. Swiney is an active member of the Texas Speech-Language-Hearing Association (TSHA). She is a frequent speaker at the Annual Conventions of the organization. She is a fellow of the Texas Speech and Hearing Foundation and has received special recognition for her fundraising efforts on behalf of that organization. Ms. Swiney is an active member of the Houston Association for the Communication Disorders (HACD). HACD awarded Ms. Swiney with its President's Award in 1999, Certificate of Appreciation 2001, 2002, 2003, and 2005. In 2004 she was the recipient of the Tina E. Bangs Service Award for long term service to the association and Houston community. Ms. Swiney serves on the AGS/Pearson National Speech and Language Pathology Advisory Board. She is a nationally known speaker, author of several on-line professional articles, and co-author of: Sound Strategies for Sound Production: A Multisensory Approach to Articulation Remediation, Austin, TX: Pro-Ed, Gilbert D. & Swiney, K.A. (2006).Tanya Jones, MA, CCC-SLPTanya graduated from The University of Houston-Clear Lake with a Bachelor of Arts in Biology in 1994. She worked for several years in the medical field and in research before graduating from The University of Houston with a Master of Arts in Communication Disorders in 2002. Tanya is certified by the American Speech-Language Hearing Association (ASHA) and is licensed by the Texas Board of Examiners for Speech-Language Pathology. Tanya's experience includes working in pediatric outpatient rehabilitation, public schools, and private practice. She has performed diagnosis and treatment of receptive language, expressive language, fluency, voice, articulation, phonological processing, oral motor functioning, pragmatic language, dysphagia, and accent reduction. Tanya has experience working with children with autism, Down's Syndrome, developmental delay, cerebral palsy and various syndromes. She has worked in individual and group based therapy settings. She is a member of the Houston Association for Communication Disorders (HACD). Tanya joined The Speech Emporium in July 2008.Martha Steele, MA, CCC-SLPMartha received her Bachelor of Arts degree in Elementary Education from Texas Lutheran College and her Master of Arts degree in Speech-Language Pathology from the University of Texas at Austin. She also holds teaching certifications in Educational Supervision and Early Childhood Education. She is a member of the American Speech Language Hearing Association (ASHA), Texas Speech-Language-Hearing Association (TSHA), and Houston Association for Communication Disorders (HACD), as well as Cy-Fair Association of Retired Educators (Cy-FARE). Martha'’s experience includes working as a speech pathologist in a North Carolina public health department for two years and in the public schools in Virginia and Texas for 27 years. Her work has included evaluation and treatment of children with communication disorders in the areas of expressive, receptive, and pragmatic language disorders; articulation; oral motor functioning; voice; and fluency. Martha has experience working with children with autism, Down’s syndrome, hearing impairment, and cerebral palsy. She has worked in individual, group, and play-based therapy settings with preschool and elementary age children.In addition to her work as a speech pathologist, Martha currently works part-time in a private early childhood center, serves as a mentor in an elementary school, and does volunteer work at Brookwood Community. She serves on the Board of Directors at Reach Unlimited, where she also volunteers.
