10th December 2011: - Sussex Schools Competition:
The first home lifesaving competition since The Freedom rescuers had started happened on the 10th December. This competition was called sussex schools and was a county competition where any sussex schools could enter a pair to compete. The Freeom Rescuers had one pair of boys and two pairs of girls competing for the title all from Beacon Community College. This was a great competition to get some of the newer lifesavers to take part and a great way to introduce certain county events to some of the lifesavers to that hadn't done anything like this before, in preperation for next year, the winners were Sophie and Rihanna for the girls and Elliott and Tom for the boys. Very well done guys!
Well done to Rachel, Molly, Sophie, Rihanna, Elliott and Tom for taking part. Also to Maisie, Caitlin, Sophie and Stephanie for taking part as guest teams in the competition and thanks to Charlie and Abi for helping to be a 'body' in the competition and Mandy, Jo, Andrew and Elliott for helping poolside.
3rd December 2011:
On December the 3rd a team of six went to the K2 to take part in the well known Crawley Town Cup. This competition introduces lifesaving speed events to lifesavers and also shows competitors at a very high standard. There were sixteen teams there overall that were split in to nineteen years and under, and nineteen years and above. Competitors included existing commonwealth champions, world champions and existing british and world record holders for certain events.
Thomas, Henry, Mike, Abi, Sophie and Jess took part in the under nineteen years old part and did a fantastic job for the first speed competition the Freedom Rescuers have entered. Thomas won his indiviual event and the team overall managed to get third place. Well done to everyone who took part and thanks for Jo and Andrew who came along to help.
18th & 19th November 2011:
Mike and Jamie made their way to Ponds Forge, Sheffield to take part in the national lifesaving competition. There were teams from all over the country including Scotland, Wales and Ireland. It was an early start to the day having to be at the leisure centre for 8.ooam. Before the competition started, the boys had to parade around the pool with the rest of the south east team and then sing the national anthem! both Mike and Jamie looked like they were going to burst with pride. Knowing that the competition was going to be tough Mike and Jamie were very nervous. the four events they had to take part in were an aquatic incident, a dry side incident, a line throw and a swim and tow.
The boys did a brilliant job and managed to get a fourth place for the swim and tow. the south east region was also the winning region in the whole of the UK! meaning the boys were part of the winning team! Jamie and Mike really enjoyed the weekend and have both said they want to get to the nationals for next year, so good luck boys!!
16th October 2011:- County Rookie Competition
Two of the teams were eight to under 11 year olds, and the other two were under thirteens and under fifteens. there was some fierce competition with teams from all over the county however, with another exceptional performance from all of our teams. The Freedom Rescuers managed to pull it out of the bag!
The eight to under eleven teams made it into third and first place making this the second time in a row of winning this category. The under thirteens team made first place aswell which is a massive imporvement over the last time they competed.
The under fifteen team did a fantastic job and were beaten to the top spot by only one point meaning they got second place.
The club has really made an imporvement since being established and hopefully we will continue the great success we have already achieved, into the next year!
A very big thankyou to Sophie and Elliott who came and helped make this competition run as smoothly as it did!!
Through all of the clubs success. it is becoming increasingly popular. the Rescuers Lifesaving will now have an extra session to split the Wednesday class up into two sessions being 6-8 and the other being 7-9. Ben will let you know when the changes will happen and what time your session will be on the wednesdays.
