If a picture is worth a thousand words, then a song is worth a million. Music is the language of pure emotion, in which Cassandra Bangel is well versed.
Once a wannabee writer, Cassandra discovered at a young age that words alone were not enough for her to communicate with the world. But being an unconditional lover of music, it wasn't long before she put her Royal Conservatory training to good use and began writing songs. At that moment, something inside went 'click', like the sound of door being unlatched. Now, through music, she is able to capture the essence of true, spontaneous emotions, decoding whatever it is that ineffably makes us human.
Yet Cassandra does not underestimate the power of words, especially when combined with music. Her love of literature has instructed her in the wizardry of composing lyrics that are teased straight from the soul. She strives to fuse music and poetry in hopes of creating a language that people not only understand, but experience a profound emotional reaction to. "It's the best way of communicating," she says, "and its the only way I know how."
This communication is paramount for Cassandra, as she has always felt somewhat plagued by a painful, incurable shyness. "In formal situations or during presentations, for instance, I begin to feel my heart accelerate, feel the air sucked straight out of my lungs, and then I cant form a complete sentence. At times like these I wish I could sing in place of speaking." But wherever the shyness comes from, it does not follow her onstage. When Cassandra plays music, she is free. "I am completely and utterly myself. The fear is gone."
Cassandra's sophomore EP is due early summer 2012. In its wake, her career refuses to stand still in time. She continues to write, record and perform, devoting herself to the creation of music that channels the volcanic gush of real emotion. "If I don't, these feelings burn through my psyche for weeks on end."
The lights have been turned on for the future of this bright artist.
