March Operation: Musical Instruments
For our Febuary and March Operation, one of the projects we are doing is for the NEGU Foundation. The NEGU Foundation's leader, Jessie Joy Rees, passed away early January with terminal cancer and a brain tumor.
In honor of Jessie, Youth in Action is teaming up with Joy Jars from NEGU to collect 10,00 toys. These toys include jump ropes, yo yo's, and stress free balls.
Operation Musical Instrumentals
Youth in Action is excited to be teaming up with Cahokia to adopt a student an instrument. It is very poor school district, the music program is not well funded and is in desperate need of help. Kids that want to play instruments do not have the money to afford the instrument or to have one-on-one lessons. Youth in Action brainstormed, and had the idea that people probably have instruments that they are not using. If you have any instrument then you may donate it as a tax right off. (For however much money the instrument is worth). To donate, visit the contact us page, and drop us a line.

Who We Are
Youth in Action STL is a non-profit, Kirkwood-based Community Service Organization determined to help others in need, whether in our own backyard or across the world, and we have fun doing it too!
Executive director, Keith Rawlings, is the founder of Youth In Action. This youth organization is currently made up of about thirty middle and high school students who volunteer their time for fund raising and carrying out projects aimed at bettering the community. Under Keith's guidance, the group has carried out such projects as: Teddy Bear Drive for children in emergency rooms, toy drive for 300 homeless children, the "Survival Bag" project providing over 1500 homeless people hygiene items, socks, and gloves for Christmas, Make-A-Wish collections and the preservation of Quinette Cemetery.
Keith is not only the leader of Youth In Action, he also serves as a role model and friend to all the members of Youth In Action. Within Keith's hectic schedule of spending time with his family, working and volunteering, Keith always finds time to talk with and counsel all of YIA's youth and anyone else who needs someone to talk to. Keith's dedication to and love of helping others rubs off on the members, giving them the desire to help out more, making volunteering and community service fun for everyone!
Mission Statemenet
We are an entirely non-profit, volunteer guided service organization and our purpose is to perform community service projects as a means to provide assistance to those less fortunate. Our goal is to assist in improving the St. Louis area today to make a safer place for our youth tomorrow.
Our target population is at-risk families and youth, single-parent homes, victims of neglect and abuse, and those who lack adult supervision. We also provide information on areas such as counseling, substance abuse education, educational resources, and health issues. Outreach goes throughout the community, and it is our duty to help others.

This past spring break I went to France, on an EF Tours program sponsored by my school. After the long flight, (with no sleep) I was finally out of the country for the first time ever. It was a great experience, and my understanding of the French language and culture was greatly improved.
We went to the Louvre, the Eiffel Tower, Versailles and had a bus tour when we were in Paris. Then we took a bus to explore the history and culture of Normandy and the rest of northern France. I loved the small towns, and how hundreds of years of history could be seen everywhere that I turned. One of my favorite places was the Chartres Cathedral. It was very old and we got to climb up the very steep stairs to the balcony, and were able to see the whole town from one spot. Then we went to the Normandy beaches, and the World War II Museum. It was so incredible to see what the Allies did to win the war, and to see the huge holes in the ground from the bombs.
The trip was an amazing way to spend spring break, and I know that I will never forget it.
Well this was a cross country race. It was the conference meet and I got third place! We as a freshman team won that race together. It was at Kirkwood Park and for the 5k run I ran a personal record of 18 min and 24 seconds.
