MISS G'S STATEMENT ON BILL 13
We believe this to be a very important moment for public education in Ontario. With the introduction of the ACCEPTING SCHOOLS ACT (BILL 13), critical questions have been raised about who has access to safe spaces in schools, and who is included as part of the "public" in public education. UPDATE ON THE ONTARIO GENDER STUDIES COURSE
The Gender Studies course, along with the rest of the revised Social Sciences curriculum, has been stalled in the editing process within the Ministry of Education since late 2010, meaning that Gender Studies will not be offered in schools until at least 2013. You can help make sure Gender Studies makes it to classrooms by writing to Minister of Education Laurel Broten and your MPP to let them know why Gender Studies in high schools still urgently matters! RESOURCES FOR TEACHERS
Lesson plans, units and other resources for teachers looking to teach Gender Studies or simply to bring more gender-focused materials into your classroom. MORE
Gender Studies is an interdisciplinary field of study that analyzes gender and its inherent intersections with class, race, ability, sexual identity, and location. It recognizes how women of diverse backgrounds have been made invisible through the different and interacting oppressions of traditional education curricula and attempts to uncover their stories across various disciplines.
MORE ABOUT GENDER STUDIES
Since its inception, The Miss G Project has been directed by a collective of co-founders that has come to be known as the Steering Committee. Though we all perform different functions in the group based on our individual skills, interests and backgrounds, we have found the most success using anti-oppressive principles of collective decision-making. Click the names or photos above to learn more about each member of the Steering Committee.
There are also many, many people who play or have played crucial leadership and supporting roles in the success of The Miss G Project, particularly in locally-based activisms through Miss G Chapters at schools and in communities across Ontario.
