5/20/09:
After electing a new Executive Board at the end of the 2008-2009 school year, the members of the Black Business Student Association wanted to hit the ground running. Just days after completing end of the year assignments and final exams, we took on a project that we knew would set the tone for the upcoming semester and got involved in the election for LA City Attorney, supporting the candidacy of USC alumni, Carmen "Nuch" Trutanich. We put forth our best effort to ensure Trutanichs victory; BBSA members campaigned in the streets of L.A. during precinct walks and participated in the phone campaigns that went on in the days before the election. We got to see the fruits of our labor (some of the BBSA E-Board members first hand at Nuch's Election Day benefit) when Mr. Trutanich won the election! Check out this articleabout his election to office!
We are a premier undergraduate organization at the University of Southern California, dedicated to advancing the professionalism, knowledge, and business-mindsets of our members by integrating the world of academics with firsthand knowledge from our extensive resources and professional contacts. Coined as "The Professionals' Club," the BBSA is committed to ensuring the success of our community, and putting our members in position to become innovators for the 21st century. We encourage constant progress and a dedication to learning about the many facets of the ever-evolving business world.
Our programs throughout the year bring USC students from freshmen to seniors in contact with professionals in various industries including but not limited to Marketing, Accounting, Finance, Consulting, Real Estate, Global Business, Entertainment, Consumer Products, and Entrepreneurship. In the past, our networking events and workshops have led to opportunities for jobs and internships in the INROADS internship program, Big 4 Accounting Firms, and industries across the board at both boutique firms and major corporations. BBSA also sponsors several social and business events throughout the year, such as the Annual Networking Diversity Dinner, Social Networking 101, Secrets of Corporate America, and the LBSA-BBSA Football Tailgate with the Latino Business Student Association.
This 2010-2011 school year, as well as in those years yet to come, the Black Business Student Association plans to continue to serve as a "success network" for students of all majors and class standings, and an aid in preparing USC students for careers in their individual fields of interest.
The Black Business Student Association works hard to organize events to ensure that all students in attendance will leave equipt with the tools they need to become true contenders in Corporate America. Our resume workshops, networking events, and diversity mixers not only inform our students of the strategies and skills they must develop to remain competitive, but allow students a chance to apply what they have learned when they talk with our corporate partners and sponsors. Many students come away from our events with new friends, professional connections, and in some cases internship opportunities.
We often collaborate with other diverse organizations like the National Association of Black Accountants, and the Latino Business Student Association to put on events like our Annual Diversity Networking Dinner.
