HISTORY OF TENNESSEE JUNIOR AMATEUR:
TGA State Junior is the fulfillment of a dream of Harold Eller, professional at Old Hickory Country Club, and his wife, Ruth. Mrs. Eller was the president of the Tennessee Junior Golf Association from its inception in 1964 until it was absorbed by the Tennessee Golf Association in 2000. The first TJGA State Junior champion was the Ellers’ oldest son, Richard. The first two years the tournament was conducted at match play, but since 1966 stroke play has been used. In 1995, the State Junior eliminated the 12-14 division and the TGA State Girls’ Junior began utilizing a separate site.
