Side Loading
If you want to buy or get free eBooks other than from the eReader's online bookstore,
you will have to master sideloading.
If you have ever downloaded documents or photos from the Internet and then saved them on a CD or a flash drive, then you have side loaded.
Free software like Calibre even makes it possible to download eBooks in formats that won't work on your eReader and convert them so they will.

Where are Your eBooks?
When you buy an eBook from B&N, it "exists" both on their website and on your eReader. If you lose it on your eReader, you can reload it from their site.
When you get a free or fee eBook elsewhere, it usually "exists" only your computer and the eReader.
Manage Your Library with Free Calibre Software
Installing Calibre on your computer allows you to save ALL of your eBooks and convert them into the proper format for any eReader:
