What's all this about?
The history of the church has seen many tales of terrible deeds done in the name of Christ. Much of these have been indirectly inspired by the canonical authority of the Bible which includes a portrayal of God that for centuries has been taught as the truth.
Many Christians have left the established church during this time and set up their own dissenting or reforming denominations that have largely ended up becoming as Pharisaic and formulaic in worship and in hierarchical structure as the orthodox mainstream organisations they moved away from.
The entire superstructure of church life has been built on the premise that Jesus' particular reference to the OT meant deference to the entire OT story as God inspired. The premise was used by a very Roman and Jewish ideology to fabricate not only the ordination of a priestly hierarchy to give them early control over the life of the church but to imitate the combatant and murderous spirit of the Old Way as if it were Holy Unction.
Constantine's vision of military victory, recounted by countless theologians applauding the idea of Christ the Military Crusader, says more about the sinful spirit of the Old Testament than it does about the true nature of God.

For those who mistakenly believe that God inspired the warriors of old to wipe out their neighbours it is time to face up to the truth. God never ordered a single man to strike another. This idea springs from the imagination of people who, according to His SON, didn't know Him very well.
