I love photography that changes you. Changes the way you feel at that moment, or the way you look at something, somewhere, or someone. I love photographs of things that people have made, especially art, even if someone, somewhere doesn't think it's art. I want to present photographs of people, places and things that we walk by or use every day without a second thought. I firmly believe that any time we slow down, take a moment and look at something again--maybe for the umpteenth time, but this time, really looking at it with a clear mind--we will always see something new.
I hang on the details of a shot, and have, from time to time, fussed over color long after I'm satisfied. I'm not wrapped up in making sure my photos are presented 'Straight Out Of Camera'; I'm interested in presenting you with a photo that captures the scene, complete with the feelings I want to convey. One of the greatest complements I've gotten on my work was when someone extolled my "love affair with color". Since then, I recognized that I do have that love affair, and if I can pass it along, I've been successful.
Lately I've fallen for all things lo-fi, vintage and old-looking. I lust after 35mm and medium format, and I long to make the ease of my digital camera capture the feelings and moods that so often come through in old photographs. I've found myself with a growing collection of vintage cameras, and just as soon as money and time allow, I can't wait to run some film through them.
