GUESTBOOK
TEAM HISTORY
The Team was formed in 2003 after using a training boat in a club race at Oulton broad in Suffolk. Jason has been around the sport since the age of about 3, back in the heyday of racing.
The night of the race, Jason was laying in 3rd position with one more heat to run. On the last lap of the race, Jason was in the lead when on the final turn, the boat on the left of him lost control. It smashed into the team boat pushing it under the boat to the right of him.
Jason Suffered a broken shoulder and a fractured collar bone. He was also hit in the face by the boat but luckily the crash helmet did its job!
At the end of 2003, the team purchased its first boat, a kala hull that had been the winner of the Baltic State Championship. This was to use a borrowed engine for 2004.
2004 was really a preparation year and only saw the boat on the water once.
2005, the team purchased its second hull and first engine.
The team was to race the ex 2000 World Champion boat of Steve Cook.
The year got off to a bad start when Jason crashed whilst testing with ex World Champion Craig Speller at Stewartby in Bedfordshire.
The team then resorted to racing the Peverelle boat with a 3rd position in a club race at Oulton Broad summer of 2005. By the end of the year, the Kala was repaired and finished 3rd in the last race of the National Championships.
The team also had guest drivers during the season, including: Danny Wood, Dave Smith, George Lack, Tom Sawford, Ricky Gibbs, Sean Barnard and ex hydroplane speed record holder, Mike Smith.
2006 was a bad year for the team, dogged by hull and engine trouble but we struggled through the year with the help of friends and fellow racers. At the end of 2006 we purchased a new hull and engine - so now we are ready to start 2007 with a splash!
2007, the team put all their efforts into Sean Barnard to compete in the world championships in which he won!!! Jason Mantripp compete in three races, all in borrowed boats from Geoff Lowther, Stu Wilkinson and Dave Smith. Jason also crashed out of the Battle of Britain meeting.
2008 saw the team with the new banshee hull constructed by the holder of the 0.350 national speed record Brett Duncan.we competed in 3 of the 5 rounds and still managed to finish in 3rd in the 2008 season
we once again had guest drivers this year with newcomer Matt Lockwood and veteran driver Nigel edwards and Stu Wilkinson both take to the water in the boat
2009 was a bad year for the team early testing was good and the team found some speed out of the boat and the first national gained a 2nd position but from then on the season got worse as the team had a bad national round at oulton broad after hitting a turn buoy in practice and not really doing anything after that .The 3rd round at kingsbury water park saw us with jack plug problems but the boat still had good speed after some help with some settings from Craig speller.team51 attend the pageant of power race in Cheshire but on the return home lost the trailer in a crash on the A14 This ended our race season in which we finished 4th in the championship
However we now own a boat that we are letting potential new drivers use to gain some water time in a boat
we hope that we can introduce new drivers into our sport .
2010 will see us with new props and some early testing for the national series
