Artist’'s Statement:
“The sculptural process is a path of discovery. As I research a subject and begin, my process translates into a study of form, light, motion, and gesture that guides my progress. My conceptions of animals and figures are undoubtedly influenced by my study of historical precedents including Egyptian and Greek sculpture. The physical aspect of manipulating clay is also an elemental struggle that competes with my intent at the outset of a project. In other words, the actual relationship of the object I am working on to my body is a humbling element that keeps the sculptural process alive.”
About/Bio:
While studying Classical and Near Eastern Archaeology at Bryn Mawr College in Pennsylvania, Natasha began taking drawing and sculpture classes at the neighboring Haverford College. There, under the guidance of sculpture professor Christopher Cairns, her interest in the bronze casting process was sparked. The sculptor has a working foundry on site available to students.
After Bryn Mawr, Natasha attended the New York Studio School for Drawing, Painting, and Sculpture in New York City. The studio school provided a rigorous program for figurative sculptors and exposure to other artists and critics from around the world.
Currently she is working on a series of Florida wildlife sculptures. As a native Floridian and animal lover she is striving to create a series of sculptures that reflect all of her experiences as an artist. In addition to the wildlife series, she is working on a figure sculpture of the surfer Kelly Slater.
*Artist is available for commissioned work including portraits.
*All sculptures available in small limited editions.
