What is Milongueando Toronto?
To answer this question we need to define Milonguear : Is to be in a Milonga socializing where the intent is to meet people, reunite with friends, make new friends and dance if in the mood, if the right partner is there, if the music inspires one to do so. A Milonguero even in this 21th century does not make it his sole purpose to dance every song all night long. Argentineans view this as very artificial. It lacks a social and cultural side which we are trying to ignite in Toronto’s Argentine Tango Community.
Milongueando Toronto, will host Milongas with Dj who play traditional tangos which create this environment just as in the Milongas of Buenos Aires and as it is done at ``El Congreso`` once a year.
Milonguear is becoming a lost art: people attend different Tango events thinking they are there to put on a show, workout a sweat, or teach and tell people how to dance. The Milonnga is not a gym, stage, running track, nor a tango class. The Milonga is a social gathering where people meet.
The Art of Milonguear is to sometimes sit and enjoy the music, talk and learn about the orquestras and once in a while dance in a nice and organized salon without being kicked.
Milonguando Toronto will have Milongueros/as enbassadores from all over the world who will create an environment so that new comers can feel welcome and learn the Art of Milonguear.
Milonguero/Milonguera: We will count on some who already know this Art to cary and teach this while attending Milongueando Toronto, since the best way to learn this Art is to aquire it by associating with Milongueros/as.
Milonguar has no style, age or gender. Is a way of behaving with respect in a social environment.
Cabeceo will be in effect during Milongueando Toronto.
Dress Code: Suits and dresses or skirts are a must of a
Milonguero. To stay clean please shower and put on some perfume and have a mint before walking into a milonga. (No sneakers or jeans will be allowed)
The DJs: The DJs must be people who understand and have experience with these types of Milongas in Buenos Aires. The Neighbourhood clubs like ``Club Almagro``, ``Sin Rumbo``, ``Club Gricel`` are some of the best examples of places where people go to Milonguear.
El Congreso: Milongueando has always been at the core of El Congreso. El Congreso has been able to create Milongas as seen in these clubs. Since then we have seen the need for Milongueros/as to have such a a place to practice this art, and are happy to bring to them Milongueando in Toronto.
We hope that this weekend will become a place where more Milongueros/as can be born and that we can bring back the
Art of Milonguear and make Milongueando Toronto a place
