SVL CHAMPIONS
Cedars won the 2010 Volleyball League to make it 14 years on. It was a very hard match against a good Dragons-Hills Team who fought hard to keep Cedars at bay.
The first Set was a different story, Cedars came blazing with attacks from all sides, having 4 hitters available at all times spreading the attack on all fronts thanks to a superb job by the best libero in the league, George Attrache, who was at his best.
A second set went to Dragons, on the minimum difference while Cedars came back stronger than before thanks to the great performance by Captain Alex Jelicic and the best backcourt hitters Chris Lefu and Tuna Von Reiche and good decitions at critical moments by setter Sebastian Bibring.
The Last set was just an incredible display of blocks by our two middles, Nathan and Alex R. who shut down all Dragon's hope of coming back.
This Championship would not be possible withouth the support of Trainers Andrew Simos and Edi Vukosa and total support from Head Coach Joe Haddad.
And Thanks as well to the rest of the team who put as much every game all year long, Michael Klish, Derren H, Dennis S, Rafael V, David Z, Jamal K, Andre (MMO Beast) and James Meredith.
Also a special thank to all our supporters here and overseas, for their special messages and especially for our life-long sponsors whom without we wouldnt be were we are now.

SVL Semi Finals
Cedars is back in the finals after... well i really lost count!. From a year off competing SVL Cedars is finally back. The team finally found the right ingredients. The senior players in great shape while the younger ones have shown how much the have mature throughout the year.
a 3-0 win against Eagles paved the road for another clash against Dragons, who Cedars beat 3-0 in their last encounter but lost their other match, which will definetly prove a great final for the last match of the year and could be the start of another classic rivalry.
August 22nd 2010
SVL Round 13
After a week off, Cedars came back stronger and determined, rolling past Eagles 3-0 in under just over one hour.
Alex was back from his break, which gave the depth necessary to cement the top spot this year with still 1 match to go.
This was a preview of the semi-finals with top and 4th spot now unmovable and the other two teams will also be facing each other regardless of the results they get next weekend.
Cedars will be at full strength again this week, with Libero George Attrache fully recovered from injury, and Setter Sebastian B. and Middle Alex Rogers back as well.
It will be a great finale for the 2010 season which had record team participation at its top level.
August 8th 2010
SVL round 11
Sydney Cedars fought hard against a resilient UTS but multiple injuries proved too much to beat the opposition.
With more than half the team missing due to injuries, the Cedars moved its pieces around to make the best possible outcome on a very hard match. Every team now is on good form, and UTS proved no less.
James played outside his comfort zone as a passer hitter, 2 setters missing, the main 2 passers out for at least another week, leaving Nathan and Lefu the only two players from the usual starting line-up.
The team left with its head up after losing 3-2 which still puts them far away at the top of the ladder with a 4 point gap and many more points and sets to be still in front of everyone else with only 2 matches left for the finals.
August 1st 2010
SVL round 10
The second round of SVL started with a crippled Cedars vs a hot Canberra Heat.
From 2 straight 3-0 victories which allowed Heat to qualify into the 2nd round, Canberra came very motivated to play a team which was plagued with injuries and leaves all around the squad.
Alex Jelicic on leave, Michael Klish, Alex Rogers and George Attrache injured which shorten training during the week.
Knowing this, the team made an unbelievable effort to win against their opponent in a very close 3-1 game.
Cedars, is now cruising on a solid top spot with 4 points ahead of their competition with only 3 more games to go to play the grand final.
July 25 2010
SVL finished with a bang.
Cedars was already qualified and guaranteed first spot on this year edition of SVL but still had to prove it on the court vs a team with big hopes to make it to the finals one more time, and be able to defend their 2009 title.
The match was played with great tenacity and skills by both teams, and while the momentum changed both ways, it was the Cedars that prevail once more to claim the 2010 premiership.
A surprise qualifier was Canberra Heat who was coming last only a few weeks ago and managed to win all games to make the finals for the first time.
July 18 2010
SVL is coming to and end, at least the first round of games.
It seems that the team is finally clicking, and training is starting to pay off... without the presence of the team captain and legend Alex Jelicic, The Cedars manage to get a great win against in-form UTS. with all the respect they deserve Cedars looked very focused and determined to cover all the gaps UTS could exploit and take advantage of its strengths at the same time. A very solid game by James Meredith established the middle to give freedom to the rest. A second set was very close at the beginning of it, but this time it was a great job by the defence especially by the Libero George Attrache who didn't let any free points be given where passing was superb. The serve was key this set which gave the team more than 10 points, to take a 15 point lead at one stage with an amazing 7 aces by Chris Lefu (aka Bro) to cement the strong performance Cedars had throughout the match.
A few changes to rest and get other players involved was no difference for the team who were only thinking about winning and kept playing ever point with the same importance and took a 3-0 win against its long time rival UTS.
July 2010 SVL week 7
Cedars cement their top spot after beating one of the best teams this years, Eagles, in a convincing fashion, 3-0, not letting a set go over 15 points. The final score was:
25-13 25-14 25-15
Next match will be against a strong UTS team.
June 2010 SVL week 6
Cedars on top again. After a very close match with Dragons last week, cedars is back in business with a 3-0 win against Canberra Heat. It's now crunch-time for the Cedars who will play one of the other 2 top teams, Eagles. Whoever wins next weekend will cement their position at the top and make themselves favourites to win the cup.
May 30 2010
SVL 3rd round win.
Baulkham Hills fought hard against a disarrayed Cedars Team. It was all over the place with our outside hitter playing middle, our setter playing passer-hitter, the libero playing as a hitter as well and another setter playing opposite. But Cedars manage to bring order to chaos and took the match in an almost perfect 3-0 again. Leading the Table with 9 points and zero sets lost. Followed by UTS and Eagles only.
May 23 2010
SVL Round 2. Another 3-0 win for our boys. Great performance by Chris and George. The cedars are now getting ready to the big trip. Lots of competition awaits the cedars in Lebanon, Cyprus and Greece so now the team is getting ready with some practice matches against AIS in Canberra to be ready for what’s waiting ahead. Next SVL match will be vs University of NSW.

Sydney Cedars won in a very convincing fashion against Sydney Uni. This time our star setter Derren Hill took a brake but it was still enough fire-power to finish the match 3-0 in under 50 minutes.
May 2010
A report from our captain, Alex Jelicic:
Cedars went to the State Cup in Newcastle with a full squad except without one of their star setters Sebastian Bibring and with some new members: Dennis, Andre and Jamal. Dennis and Andre being new players developed by Sydney Cedars and training at Trinity with Andrew Simos as their coach..
Cedars went to the State Cup in Newcastle with a full squad except without one of their star setters Sebastian Bibring and with some new members: Dennis, Andre and Jamal. Dennis and Andre being new players developed by Sydney Cedars and training at Trinity with Andrew Simos as their coach.
In earlier stages of the tournament head coach Joe Haddad experimented with alternative line ups and gave all players an opportunity to show their skills and add more to their on-court experience. As a result of these changes, there were some very close sets, which were hard fought in the end, but the experience some of the younger players gained was priceless for their further development of their skills.
At the business end of the tournament cedars took a more focused approach .
Semi finals against dragons was a first real test during the tournament and cedars had a total control from the first point of the match. Solid performance with 2:0 win placed Cedars into their consecutive "15th" final.
The final showdown was against uts who beat state cup 1 winners eagles by 2 points. The finals started with 5:0 lead by cedars with Darren's impressive serving that could not be controlled by UTS. This made a great start for the finals which was completely dominated by the Cedars
It was in the end a quick game. An unusual easy win against the UTS team who usually performs very well against the Cedars.
Cedars performance was Almost as impressive as their perfect SVL record over more than a decade, cementing Cedars as still the best team in NSW, and a record that no-one will undoubtly match in Australia.
Next cedars are looking to test their skills against AIS team in canberra in coming weeks and the start of SVL 2010.
March 2010
Cedars won Bronze at Wollongong State Cup 1. Without a lose, and drawing 1-1 (losing by point difference in the semifinal) with the eventual champion, Eagles, Cedars played for bronze against UTS, winning with a flawless display of superb skills for an almost perfect weekend in the gong.

Thanks to all who travelled from distant locations not just interstate but internationally as well. And thanks to all our sponsors who stick with us yet another year, especially to Wally and Joe who gave us their always unconditional support.

Sydney Cedars visit to UTS was meant to be a training match, but the old rivalry could only mean business for both teams. Cedars take early control of the match winning the first set with good all around performances, but it was either a bit of tiredness from the many matches played lately or some loss of focus that gave some advantage to UTS who took the second set. In a 5 set match Cedars took the game 3-2 with an overall good performance by the team.
June 26-27 match summary
Friday seems to be a good day for the Cedars, The team started the match on fire, with well distributed attack from the middle with James, Nathan and Alex, which allowed some free action from the outside hitters. The first set was for the Cedars on a close match while the second set went to AIS. A third set established the middle again and cleared the way for an incredible display of front and back court hits from our French international Julian, which was virtually unstoppable. A last quick set to 15 as there was no time left for the AIS boys equalled the nr of sets for both teams. Saturday didnt go as planned and AIS took the game on a very close encounter.
Canberra heat fought hard at times was no match for a highly motivated Cedars this time.

Cedars vs AIS part 2
Cedars travelled to Canberra again this weekend to get a rematch of last close encounter with the "local" national team. It was a very successful match again for Cedars, who although was a little short of players compared to the last time, it still came out strong with it's experienced starting lineup. 3-1 with very close sets on friday night, but it almost went the other way on saturday's rematch, while losing on an even tightier match 3-2, where the boys came out short of another victorious performance in preparation for New Caledonia Oceanic Championships later this year.
