Covenant Bible Fellowship (CBF) was formed in 1916 by the congregations of three churches - the Baptist church formed in 1808; the Congregational, which was formerly the Presbyterian; formed in 1837, and the Disciples, formed in 1836. These congregations voted to become one under the name of United Church of Garrettsville with the following motto:
Members of United Church (now Covenant Bible Fellowship) come from various backgrounds, but we share the transforming work of God's salvation in our lives, an earnest desire to please Him by adhering to His Word, and a mutual dedication to advancing God's kingdom on Earth.
Hallmarks of our church are orthodoxy in doctrine, practical application of the Word of God to all areas of life, enthusiastic worship, and body ministry teams. We have a strong committment to our youth both in education and in social activities.
We welcome guests and visitors to worship with us, and to grow together from the teaching of God's Word!
We believe that faith is not only an assurance or trust in God in our hearts, but also a body of doctrine passed down to us from the apostles. Without sound doctrine, believers will be easily tossed about from extremism to even heresy.
The reformers developed creeds and confessions which described the historic and orthodox Christian faith. We believe, with them, in salvation by grace alone from God's sovereign initiative; we confess the deity of Jesus our Lord, the triune God, and the inerrant scriptures as our only rule of faith and practice.
We adhere to the basic doctrines emphasized by St. Augustine and John Calvin. Although our elders must be believers in reformed theology, we do not require church members to agree wjith every point of Reformed doctrine.
