Strictly Come Dancing & Metro Radio
January/February 2012
We are currently working with 2 of the presenters from Metro Radio, Stuart Elemore & Kelly Hinch, teaching them a Ballroom Dance to compete against each other and to be judged by the BBC's 'Strictly Come Dancing' Judges when the
'Strictly Live Tour' comes to the Metro Radio Arena on Tuesday 7th February...... We have partnered Kelly with former Bristish Champion Lee Dudman, they will be performing a Waltz, and we have partnered Stuart with Beverley Cruddass-Ginks also a former British Champion, who will be performing a Tango........ you can follow their training and progress , listen to interviews with our Principal Susan, Lee & Bev and watch videos, by tuning into Metro Radio or by visiting their website or Facebook Page.

Christmas Variety Show & Medal Presentations

We would like to say 'well done' and 'congratulations' firstly to our Principal Susan Pluse for gaining 'Honours' for her higher qualification of Membership in the Classical Sequence Branch with the NCDTA, to Chloe Smith who gained 'Honours with Dist' for her Grade 5 Latin and has gained her Students Qualification in the Classical Sequence Branch with NCDTA, and to Samantha Robinson who gained 'Honours with Dist' for her Grade 5 Latin.
We pride our school on very high standards so for students to achieve these marks is of outstanding achievement!

Christmas Variety Show and Party
Saturday 18th & Sunday 19th December 2010
We ended yet another successful year with a fabulous Christmas Variety Show held at the Art Centre, Washington, all the children from the babies to the some of the Teachers performed beautifully at this fantastic Theatre, showcasing some wonderful talent we have here at Washington Dance Academy, even the Mums who participated in our sponsored dance were brilliant knowing myself how nervewracking it is to get up there, they were absolutely fantastic, so well done to you all, a big thankyou to all parents, pupils and families for your continued support, we managed to raise a grand total of £545.50 for the xmas party, which leads me on to say congratulations to all who participated in our sponsored events over the past 6 weeks, i think all will agree we had a fantastic party with bouncy castle, face painting, party games, disco and a special visit from Santa who came and visited all 120 pupils.
Christmas Parade through Sunderland
Sunday 21st November
We were invited by Sunderland City Council to join the Christmas festivities this year by providing the 9 Ladies dancing for the Christmas Parade themed
'The 12 days of Christmas', although quite cold on the day the rain held off and we all kept warm by dancing, you all danced beautifully and represented our school with pride, some of our pupils then performed outside Debenhams in the Bridges alongside Hatton Dance Academy, and i must say the public enjoyed the spectacular dancing, afterall they were watching some British Champions and finalists of the Classical Sequence from the Hatton Academy, the day was topped off by everyone meeting the live reindeer and the man himself 'Santa!'. Thankyou to all who participated including Mums & Dad's who paraded for all your help and support, and a massive thankyou to the Hatton Academy for their help and support.

Well done to all pupils who took their Exams today at the Harraton Community Centre, you all danced beautifully and to a high standard, a special congratulations to Samantha Robinson for acheiving '98' Honors with Distinction for her Grade 4 Latin American and to Chloe Smith for acheiving '98' Honours with Distinction for her Grade 5 Classical Sequence.
We take Child Protection very seriously therefore we will not publish names of Junior & Infant pupils but overall Exam results are as follows:

New Student Teacher
We have a fabulous new addition to our team Bethany Collins, Bethany has studied the art of Ballet, Lyrical, Tap, Jazz and Musical Theatre and will be working alongside Susan on Saturday mornings, her profile will be coming soon.
Glee Club
Lighthouse Church, Concord, Washington
A successful taster session was held on Saturday 25th September, due to the success, Glee Club performance classes will commence on Saturday 2nd October, so if your child loves singing, dancing and performing, bring them along to Washington Glee Club.
Washington Grange Care Home
Saturday 4th September, Barmston, Washington
Some of our Infant Ballet, Infant Ballroom, Junior Ballroom and Junior Disco pupils entertained the residents of the Washington Grange Care Home in Barmston as well as the Deputy Majoress of Sunderland who opened their charity fun day in order to raise money for the residents for Christmas and some new chairs for their garden, a big thankyou to all pupils and parents who gave up their Saturday morning to participate. A Disney Extravaganza ~ Class Display's
Sunday 22nd August, Harraton Community Centre
We ended the term with our class display's entitiled 'A Disney Extravaganza', all the children performed beautifully for parents, family and friends to an array of Disney Songs, all children who participated were presented with a Disney Certificate. A big thankyou to Helen Sadrhashemi for help in the back room, Sarah Bradley for doing such a fantastic job with the boyz, Jasmine Barrass for help with scenery, Mrs Newman for selling tickets on door.
Guiness World Record - T-Mobile Big Dance Pledge 2010
Friday 9th July, 1pm - Raddison Hotel, Durham
Susan and her student teachers were given this fantastic opportunity to work with Durham County Council and many of their school teachers to help them break the guiness world record for the most amount of people dancing at the same time, 200 teachers and employees of Durham County Council participated in the event today at the Raddison Hotel, the T-Mobile dance was not only being danced throughout our country but throught the world. Well done to all who participated you were all fabulous, some of you had fantastic 'Air Guitars'

Pie & Pea Supper
Saturday 28th March
We would like to say a massive thankyou to all who attended our Pie & Pea Supper, i think you'll agree we all had a fantastic evening being entertained not only by the children but also some of the mum's who performed a fantastic cheeky cheeky dance! well done mum's. We would also like to thank all local buisnesses who donated prizes, and not forgetting our local butchers for donating the pie's & pea's. We raised a considerable amount of money, details of which are available from Susan. Due to it's success we'll be hosting our next event on Saturday 18th July.
IDTA Competition
Sunday 15th February
We took 14 Competitors to the IDTA Ballroom, Latin & Freestyle Comp on Sunday 15th February, most of our pupils either made it through to the Semi's and Final's, but we were elated that some of our pupils won their section and others were place in the final 6. Everyone had a most enjoyable day, and we are extremley proud of everyone who participated, considering our girls have only been dancing a short while they are doing exceptionally well. Susan would like to say a big thankyou to Claire Hall, our Ballet & Ballroom Teacher, and wish her the best of luck, Claire is off to teach in Equador for 6 months, she will be greatly missed. Good Luck Claire, and have a fantastic time, we wish you every success for the future!
Congratulations
Congtratlations to Rachel Clark who has recently qualified as a cheerleading coach. Rachel took a squad of girls to the National Street/Cheer Competition for the first time held in Blackpool on 1st & 2nd November and her team were placed 4th! Well Done, can't wait till next year.

Pets at Home Grand Opening!
Tuesday 7th October 2008
12 of our cheerleaders cheered at the grand opening of the new store, pets at home in the new retail park in washington. The organisers were so impressed we were invited to do it all again on saturday 11th October. Two of our head girls handed out balloons & leaflets all day to promote the store.
Medallist of the Year Competition 2008
Sunday 18th May
We took seven children to their first Ballroom Competition in May this year, held at the Barley Mow Community Centre, all the children done exceptionally well considering this was their first time not only competing, but dancing in front of other people. All of you danced beautifully and made me feel really proud of you all, Thankyou to all competitors for your hard work, commitment and dedication.

Several of our children performed in the Metrocentre, Gateshead on behalf of the NCDTA as part of the Big Dance Week!. This was to promote dance throughout the North East and to display what Talent we have in our area.
