• Overview

At Wix, we do everything we can to optimize your site for search engines, however much of the work is up to you. A first step to fully optimizing your site for search engines is to update your site's SEO (Search Engine Optimization) Settings within the Editor.

It usually takes about one to three months for Google and other search engines to update their databases and for your site to appear in searches.

  • Making Your Site Searchable

You can decide whether or not you would like search engines to find you. If your site is not ready to be published, you may decide to “hide” your site from search engines. If you would like search engines to find your site, checkmark the box next to Allow search engines to find my site in the Settings section of your Editor.

Setting your site to searchable enables search engine bots and crawlers to crawl your site and to rank it.

    To make your site searchable:

    1. From the left side of the Editor, click the gear icon to open Settings.
    2. From Settings, click SEO (Google).
    3. Click the toggle next to Allow search engines to find my site to set it to green.

Green indicates that this setting is ON and that search engines will be able to find your site.
Red indicates that this setting is OFF and that search engines will not be able to find your site.

    4. Click Done.

Your site will appear in search engines.

Please note that it may take 1-3 months for search engines to scan your site.

  • Updating Your Site’s Meta Tags

You can update your meta tags in the Settings section of your Editor.

To update your site’s meta tags:

    1. From the left side of the Editor, click the gear icon to open Settings.

    3. Under Site Title, Site Description and Keywords, fill in the fields.

    4. Click Done.

Your site’s meta tags are updated.

  • Updating the Meta Tags of Individual Pages

You can update the meta tags of each individual page of your site from the SEO Page Settings section of Pages.

To update the meta tags of individual site pages:

    1. From the left side of the Editor, click the page icon to open Pages.
    2. Next to your page, click the settings icon.

    3. In Settings and SEO, under SEO Page Settings, fill in the fields.

    4. Click Done.

Your page’s meta tags are updated.

  • About Meta Tags

    Title

Your title appears at the top of your site’s browser and in search engines as your site’s title. Your title can be up to 70 characters long. Choose a title that describes in 2-5 words what your site is all about (e.g. your name, company name, job description and location: John Smith Photography, Photographer, London).

    Site Description

This text will appear below your site’s title in search engine listings. In this section, use up to 250 characters (or about 15-20 words) to describe your website (e.g. if your site title is Google Maps, your description may be: find local businesses, view maps and get driving directions in Google Maps!).

    Keywords

Promote your site with up to 10 keywords. Keywords are words or short phrases that describe your website content and should include words that people may use to search for you. When typing your keywords into the Tags field, separate them by commas (e.g. for a site titled John Smith Photography, keywords may include: John Smith, photography, photographers, london, wedding photography, portraits).
