    You can transfer your domain from another registrar to your Wix account. To transfer your domain, verify that at least 60 days have passed since you registered or last transferred your domain and make sure that your domain is unlocked.

  • Checklist to Review Before Transferring Your Domain

    Before transferring your domain to Wix, make sure: 
    • The domain suffix you are using is supported.

    Currently, you can transfer domains with the following extensions: .com, .org, .net, .biz., .info, .co, .guru, .email, .expert, and .tv.

    • Your domain is not protected by privacy (if you purchased privacy protection, you need to disable it for the duration of the transfer)

    You can check with your current domain host

    • The email address for the domain admin/registrant is your own email address, since we will send a confirmation email to that address once the transfer is initiated.

    You can check the email address associated with your domain in the domain settings of your current host, or perform a Whois check. 

    • Your domain is older than 60 days

  • Transferring Your Domain to Wix

    Please make sure you reviewed the checklist above before proceeding. 

    To transfer your domain to Wix:

    1. From Wix.com, click My Account.
    2. Next to Manage Premium, click Domains.
    3. Click Use a Domain You Already Own.

    4. From the page that opens, type your domain in the field. Click Next.
    You can currently transfer only domains with the following extensions: .com, .org, .net, .biz. and .info.

    5. From the pop-up window that opens, next to Authorization Code, type or paste your authorization code.

    You will have to obtain an authorization code from your current registrar to transfer your domain to Wix. You can obtain an authorization code by logging into your domain registrar account and requesting an authorization code. The authorization code will be sent by email to the primary contact listed for your domain. To learn more about how to get your authorization code, choose your domain host from the dropdown menu in the pop-up window.

    6. Click Continue.
    7. From the domain name transfer screen, under Step 1: Public or Private Registration, mark the radio dial next to Public Registration or Private Registration. Click Next.

    If you don’t want your contact details to appear in the WHOIS domain information records, choose Private Registration.

    Important! You will not be able to change this setting (this is true for domain registration in general, not just with Wix).

    Note that your transferred domain will not inherit the registration setting from your old registrar. Your previous setting will remain until the end of your old contract and then transfer to the setting that you select here.

    If you purchase the option to make your information private, you can temporarily turn the privacy protection option on and off but this would result in a temporary change only. In other words, if you choose to keep your information private when purchasing, the option will always remain a part of your domain purchase, even when renewing. Conversely, if you don't choose the option to make your information private when purchasing, it will always remain public and you will not have the option to change it to private, even when renewing.

    8. Under Step 2: Service Term, choose the length of time that you would like to register your domain for. Click the bar above 1 Year, 2 Years or 3 Years to choose the length of your contract. Click Next.

    The length of time that you select here is in addition to the time that you have remaining with your current registrar.

    9. Under Step 3: Review Domain Contact Information, fill in the fields. Click Next.

    If there are already details in the Registrant Contact fields and you would like to update them, click Change in the upper right corner.

    What contact information should you list in your domain registration?

    Registrant Contact: the person or company who is the licensee of the domain name and has the right to use, sell or remove a domain name.
    Tech Contact: the person responsible for the technical aspects of maintaining the domain, such as updating the domain records.
    Admin Contact: the representative of the Registrant Contact. This person is authorized by the Registrant Contact to make any relevant changes to the domain name.

    10. Under Step 4: Billing Information, fill in your credit card details. Click Submit Purchase.

    PayPal is currently not a supported method of payment.

    11. From the success page, click Go Back to My Account.

    Your domain appears in your domain list with the status Pending Verification.

    Note that during this process a few important emails will be sent to the email address that you had indicated when signing up with your old registrar. 

    It may take up to 24 hours for Wix to verify your domain transfer.

    After Wix verifies your transfer, you will get an email from your current registrar approving your transfer request. Your domain status will then change to Pending Registry Approval

    Verify that the email address for the domain admin/registrant is your own email address, as we will send a confirmation email to that address once the transfer is initiated. This email will expire after 5 days, so we recommend that you confirm the domain transfer as soon as possible.You can check your domain admin/registrant e-mail address(es) via the WHOIS database here.

    You'll receive an email from support@wix.com, asking you to confirm your transfer request. The subject of the email is "DOMAIN NAME TRANSFER - Initial Authorization for Registrar". You must open this email (check your spam folder) and click Confirm within 5 days after the transfer request. If you do not confirm the email, the transfer process cannot be completed.

    It may take up to seven days for the Registry to approve your transfer.


  • Obtaining an Authorization Code

    You can obtain an authorization code from your current registrar by logging into your domain registrar account and requesting an authorization code. The authorization code will generally be sent by email to the primary contact listed for your domain.

  • Domain Transfer Failures

    If your domain transfer failed, you can simply initiate the transfer process again. Please make sure to first review the checklist provided here.

    You can find a list of reasons for why the domain transfer failed here.

    Please note that you will be refunded for the payment you made to initiate the transfer if it fails. The refund will appear within 20 business days.

  • What is the Difference Between Transferring and Connecting Your Domain to Wix?

    Manage your domain and your site in the same place! When you transfer your domain to Wix, it means that you will be able to manage your DNS records from your Wix account. This includes connecting your e-mail, pointing your domain to a different IP address, connecting subdomains, etc. 

    Once the domain transfer has been processed, Wix will become the domain host, which means that domain renewal will be done from your Wix account, and not with your previous domain host.
