• Creating subdomains

Subdomains are used for connecting the same domain to resources on two different servers.

For example, you have a domain - www.domainexample.com - pointed to your Wix website, however you also created a blog with a different service provider and wish to be able to use the same domain to link to that blog. To do this, you can create a subdomain - blog.yourdomain.com - and have that point to where your blog is hosted.

    Creating a subdomain:

If you are connected to Wix via Name Servers:

    1. Find out where to point it to - Other servers also work this way and ask you to point either to an IP or to a URL.
    2. Create the appropriate record in the Wix Domain Manager:

If you have an IP address to point to, then you need to create an A record with the desired subdomain. Click here for more information.
If you have a URL to redirect to, then you need to create a CNAME with the desired sub domain. Click here for more information.

If you are connected to Wix via Pointing:

    1. Find out where to point it to - Other servers also work this way and ask you to point either to an IP or to a URL.
    2. Contact your domain host for information on how to create a sub domain.

  • Connecting a subdomain to your Wix website

You can connect a subdomain to your Wix website, however the sub domain must start with a www.

In other words, if you wish to create a subdomain of beta.yourdomain.com, create a subdomain of www.beta.yourdomain.com instead and point it to the Wix IP via an A record with your DNS host.
