• Overview

    You can create, add and customize individual buttons and then link them to external URLs, to other pages within your Wix site, to e-mail addresses, and more. You can also easily transform text, pictures, shapes and many other components on your site into buttons!

    Note: If you would like to make navigation buttons for all of your Pages or Master Pages, you may find Menus more suitable for your needs.

  • Adding a Button

    To add a button:

    1. From the left of your Editor, go to Add, and then Navigation. Click Buttons.
    2. From the Buttons Gallery, click a button of your choice.

    Your button now appears in the Editor.

  • Linking Your Buttons

    Once you have created a button, you can link it to outside websites (external URLs), to other pages of your Wix site, to e-mail addresses and even to media! You can also turn your button into a Previous or Next button that will allow your users to scroll through your Master Pages, Pages or Galleries.

     

    Linking Your Button to an External URL

    To link your button to an external URL:

    1. Click the button to select it.
    2. On the right, from the Button property panel, click Link.
    3. From the Link window, click URL.
    4. Type a URL in the URL field (without the "http://").
    5. Select Open in new window or Open in same window to set how the link will open when a user clicks on your button.

    6. Click OK.

    Your button is now linked to an external URL.

    Note: If your URL has special characters in it, you may not be able to type the character into the external URL field. Below is a guide for codes that you can type in to represent special characters:

     

    Linking Your Button to a Page within Your Site

    To link your button to a page within your site:

    1. Click the button to select it.
    2. On the right, from the Button property panel, click Link.
    3. From the Link window, click Page.

    4. From the Page tab, click Select Page.
    5. From the Link to page window, select a page to link to. Click OK.

    6. From the Link window, click OK.
    Your button is now linked to another page within your site.

     

    Linking Your Button to Your E-mail

    To link your button to your e-mail:

    1. Click the button to select it.
    2. On the right, from the Button property panel, click Link.
    3. From the Link window, click e-mail.
    4. From the e-mail tab, type your email in the Email field.
    5. In the Subject field, type a subject for your email.

    6. Click OK.

    Your button is now linked to an e-mail.

    Note: When your users click on this button, a contact form will pop up. Through this contact form, your user will be able to contact the e-mail address that you specified in Step 4.

     

    Linking Your Button to Media

    To link your button to media:

    1. Click the button to select it.
    2. On the right, from the Button property panel, click Link.
    3. From the Link window, click the Advanced tab on the left.
    4. From the expanded Link window, click Media.
    5. From the Media tab, click Select.

    6. From the Link to media window, click on the Galleries or Music tab.
    7. Click an individual picture, a gallery or music to link your button to. Then click OK.

    8. From the Link window, click OK.

    Note: You can link a button to more than one media item.

    Your button is now linked to media within your site.

     

    Creating a Previous and Next Button

    You can set your button to scroll through Next or Previous pages with each click.

    To create a previous or next button:

    1. Click the button to select it.
    2. On the right, from the Button property panel, click Link.
    3. From the Link window, click the Advanced tab on the left.
    4. From the expanded Link window, click Prev-Next.
    5. From the Prev-Next tab, click Select.

    6. From the Link to Previous-Next window, click on the Prev or Next tab.
    7. Click on Master Pages, Pages or Galleries. Then click OK.

    8. From the Link window, click OK.

    Note: You can link a button to more than one item.

    Your button is set to scroll through your pages.

  • Customizing Your Buttons

    Once you have added a button to your site, you can customize it by clicking on the button and choosing options from the property panel on the right. The property panel gives you many options for customizing your buttons. Below you will find a list of these options.
    Feel free to experiment with these button options to find the look that suits you!

    Link – allows you to link your buttons to URLs, other Wix Pages, e-mail addresses and Media.
    Format – change the font and textual formatting of your buttons.
    Replace – change the skin of your button.
    Color – change the default Background Color of your button as well as the Background Color when a user Mouses Over or Clicks.
    Settings – set Text Position, the Side Margins, and the Icon Properties of your button.
    Effects, Behaviors and Animations – add various special effects to your buttons.

    Can I turn Pics or Clip Art into buttons?

    Sure! Every component in Wix (e.g. Pics, Shapes, Clipart) can be used as a "button" to link to another page.

    You can do this in one of two ways:

    By using a button:
    To do this, Add a Button and Link it to an External URL. Type your Twitter or Blog URL in the URL field.

    By adding your Twitter or Blog RSS Feed to your Wix site:

    Why am I lead to the wrong place after clicking on a button? Why does my button lead to nowhere?

    Try the following to troubleshoot this issue:

    1. Make sure that you have no spelling errors in the URL or e-mail that you have entered.
    2. Make sure that your button is within the borders of the page. If your button is outside of the page borders, simply move the button into the borders of your website's page.
    3. Double check to make sure that you have not accidentally deleted your links. You must click OK before exiting the Link windows.
    4. If you are linking to an external URL, try adding the link again without the http://
