• Overview

Sometimes bugs happen and we appreciate your understanding and patience with us! Below are some errors that you may encounter and suggestions for solving them.

If you're experiencing issues with your Wix editor, you may want to try the following steps first:
    1. Update your Flash Player to the most recent version.
    2. Open your browser to a blank page. Close any Wix pages that are open.
    3. Clear your browser's cache and cookies of "Everything". You can find step-by-step instructions here.
    4. Go to this link and click on Delete all sites.
    5. Restart your browser and then log into your Wix account and try again. If this doesn't work, then continue on to Step 6.
    6. Try using other browsers to open Wix. Recommended browsers include Google Chrome, Mozilla Firefox, and either IE or Safari (depending on whether you use a PC or a MAC).
    7. If you connect to the internet through a router, please try connecting directly through the modem. Then follow Steps 2-5 again.
    8. Try disabling your internet security programs and try again (i.e. antivirus, firewall, etc.). It is preferable to try this while still connected to the modem directly. This is meant to assist us in determining the source of the problem that you're facing.
    9. Try connecting to Wix from a different computer that uses a different network to connect to the internet.

Finally, if you are still having issues, please contact us. Let us know exactly which steps you tried and what worked or didn't work. Please also include the following information:
    1. What Operating System you're using (i.e. Mac OSX, Windows XP, etc.)
    2. What browsers you've tried - and include the version of the browser (can generally be found by going to Help > About within the browser).
    3. What version of Flash you have installed on your computer.
4.Your Wix username and the document name of the site(s) with the issue.
    5. Attach a screenshot of the problem, if possible. For instructions on how to take a screenshot, click here.
    6. Your geographic location and which ISP you use.
    7. Which internet security programs you have installed on your computer (antivirus, firewall, etc.).

  • I click on “Edit” but nothing happens. What shall I do? OR I can't open the Wix editor or Wix templates.

This error is likely due to your pop up blocker. Find a handy step by step guide to "allow pop ups" from Wix.com here.

  • I am experiencing upload issues

In most cases, upload issues are related to a local misconfiguration of certain settings on your computer, or to your internet connection.

Please follow these steps in order to troubleshoot the issue you're experiencing:

    1. Try uploading other images. Is this issue isolated to specific images? If so, please email us the problematic images.
    2. Clear your browser's cache and cookies of "Everything".
    3. Log out of your Wix account, restart your browser and then log into your Wix account and try again.
    4. Try using other browsers to open Wix. Recommended browsers include Google Chrome, Mozilla Firefox, and either IE or Safari (depending on whether you use a PC or a MAC).
    5. If you connect to the internet through a router, please try connecting directly through the modem.
    6. Try temporarily disabling your internet security programs and try again (i.e. antivirus, firewall, etc.). It is preferable to try this while still connected to the modem directly. This is meant to assist us in determining the source of the problem that you're facing.
    7. Try connecting to Wix from a different computer that uses a different internet connection.

Finally, if you are still having issues, please contact us. Let us know exactly which steps you tried and what worked or didn't work. Please also include the following information:

    1. What Operating System you're using (i.e. Mac OSX, Windows XP, etc.) - and what version it is.
    2. What browsers you've tried - and include the version of the browser (can generally be found by going to Help > About within the browser).
    3. What version of Flash you have installed on your computer- you can find this at whatismyflash.com
    4. Your Wix username and the name of the site(s) with the issue.
    5. If you receive an error message, please attach the error message that you receive.
    6. Your geographic location and which ISP you use.
    7. Which internet security programs you have installed on your computer (antivirus, firewall, etc.).

  • Runtime Error

The cause for the "Runtime Error" crash is due to a lack of system resources, especially RAM. To resolve the problem we suggest that you either use a different browser or switch to another computer with more RAM.
To fix this problem completely, the best solution would be to redesign your page and remove as many heavy components as possible. Heavy components, such as multiple pages or a large amount of behaviors and animations, weigh down your Editor and may cause errors.

  • Error 10

Please note: When trying to enter HTML code in the settings menu, for example the Google Analytics HTML code, please make sure that you don't copy the entire Google Analytics HTML code. Click here to see how to add the correct code.
If this is not a Google Analytics issue, please send us the following information so we may look into the matter further:
    1. Operating System
    2. Browser and version
    3. Flash version - right click on Wix.com or any flash site, then click on About Adobe and a new page will open with your Flash version showing in a box.
    4. Registered email address attached to your account.
If your editor gets stuck on 10% (doesn't open), click here.

  • Error -14

    1. Error -14 happens when switching back and forth between Master Pages before each save - switching back and forth between Master Pages may lead to a large stream of data being uploaded from your computer to our servers and this can lead to an error. We recommend working on one Master Page at a time and saving that Master Page before moving on to another one.
    2. If you do save constantly and still get this error, you may have Master Pages in your document with a large amount of Pages inside of Pages or Master Pages with a large number of components. If you are still unable to save your document, try to distribute your content onto several Pages or Master Pages, and then try to save your document.
If you still need help, please contact us and let us know the exact steps that you take that lead you to this error so that we may test your site on our computer and help you resolve this issue.

  • This site is invalid. Error Code: -14

The issue with Google cache happens because the version on Google cache and the live Wix version do not match (the flash content)
Please be aware that the cached snapshot of your site visible by searching cache:www.mydomain.com is not an exact representation of how Google views your site. Google doesn't run SWF, in order to see the Google cache, you should disable JavaScript in your browser.
If you disable javascript and check what Google actually sees you will see that the "This site is invalid Error code -14" does not effect how Google crawls the website. The error 14 just effects the flash view of the cached version.
Here's how to disable JavaScript from your browser:
Firefox: Click Tools > Options > Content and next to 'Enable JavaScript' deselect the tick box. Click OK and then refresh your page.
Chrome: Click the little tool icon located on the top left of your browser and click on 'Options' > Go to 'Under The Bonnet/hood' > 'Content Settings' > 'JavaScript' tab and click Do Not Allow and Site to run Java Script > Close and refresh the page.
Internet Explorer: Click 'Tools' > 'Internet Options' > "Security" tab > Select "Custom" and click on the "Settings..." button, scroll down near the end till you see the 'Scripting of Java applets' and click Disable. Refresh the browser.
Please notice that Google caches the content of the site so design elements (like font size and font color) will not be visible when you disable the JavaScript
Since the cached version is only checked by webmasters to see what Google has indexed we do not feel there is a need to change this at this stage.

After viewing your sites content as Google does, remember to enable the JavaScript in your browser.

  • Error 15

If you received this error while trying to open a specific template to edit, please contact us with the name of the template so that we can fix the error.

  • Error 20

Error 20 may occur when one of our servers(apps) suffers an error. No need to worry, at once our server team is on the problem and within the same day the error will be solved so users can upload files again.
A temporary solution we offer is to log out and back in to Wix again. This will connect you to a different server (it might take more than one try).

  • Error 23

Please try going here and click on "Delete all sites". Then clear your browser's cache. For step-by-step instructions about how to clear your browser's cache, please follow this link. You can also find a video tutorial here.

If you receive this error when trying to save your site, then please try again after a few minutes. If the problem persists, try to use a different internet connection. If you're using a router, then try connecting directly to the modem.

If you're still experiencing this problem, please let us know exactly when it occurs (i.e. when loading the editor, when clicking on a gallery, etc.) and send us a screenshot of the problem. For instructions on how to take a screenshot, please use this link.
In addition, please send us the following information:
    Operating System
    Browser and version
User name and name of relevant Wix site (if it happens to all of them, let us know that as well)

  • Error 103

This error message indicates that the size of the XML file for your Master Page is too large. The XML file does not refer to the size of your uploaded images or files. An XML file is an encoded text document that contains information about what your Master Page contains and its size is affected by the number of components on each Master Page.
Error 103 indicates that you have a lot of components on one Master Page, and that its XML file is too large for your site to save properly without a risk of getting corrupted. Each Master Page's XML file limit is 800kb. This limit was put in place for your benefit after many hours of research. Please note that you will not be able to save your site if a Master Page's XML file exceeds 800kb.
If you receive this error, please spread the content of this Master Page across several other Master Pages and then save. We apologize for any inconvenience that this may cause you. You can watch this video for information about how to spread your content across several Master Pages:

  • Error 785

This error appears on the "comments" widget. Please try to attach the comment box again to your document.
    This should fix the problem.

  • Error 1502

This error occurs when the CPU of your computer is unable to handle the request to save your site. This is very specific to placing too much text on one master page.
    The solution:
    1. If you have a lot of text on one Master Page, then please try spreading out your text across several Master Pages.
    2. If you have a lot of text throughout many Pages on one Master Page, then please try spreading out the content across several Master Pages.

You can also try using a more powerful computer to finish designing your site if you do not wish to try one of the above solutions.

  • Error 1009

The following error may occur when trying to edit:

Flash Player 10TypeError: Error #1009: Cannot access a property or method of a null object reference.

If you are experiencing one of these errors when viewing your live Website, please follow this link.

  • Error C4035/36

The problem you are experiencing may be due to the name of your Master Page.
    Please try the following:
    1. Make sure that no trailing space is present: "My page" is a correct example while "My page " isn't.
    2. Make sure that the Master Page name only contains the following characters: a-z, A-Z, 0-9 and "-".
    3. Make sure that your page name isn't longer than 15 characters or shorter than 3 characters.
    4. Make sure that the dimensions of the site do not exceed 2800px."
    5. There should not be hyphen at the beginning or end of the master-page name. These 2 examples are invalid names: "-name" "name-"

  • Error 10401

This error occurs when your upload connection to our server is not authenticated properly or has expired. Please save your work and log out of Wix. Then clear your cache, restart your browser, and log in to Wix to continue working.

  • Error 10417

If you receive this error, the file that you are trying to upload has an extension that is different from the actual file type. For example, if you were trying to upload 'Song.mp3' and received an error 10417, then the file is not an .mp3, but rather another file format (for example, .exe) where the extension had simply been changed to .mp3.
Please make sure that you are uploading the correct file to our servers and do not alter the extension of any of the files that you are uploading. If you do need to convert a file, please convert it by using software that is specifically intended for this purpose.

  • AC_RunActiveContent Error

This error occurs when there is a connection problem to the Wix server.
Your computer is trying to download the JavaScript and fails due to the connection.
Solution: Please check your internet connection, even turn it off and on. Then try again.

  • Unexpected results from server encountered

If you receive this error please delete the RSS feed on your site (usually the feed will be transparent and you will only see the blue title tab).
For more information about the RSS feature, click here.

  • IO Error

Some of our results are showing that when Firefox browsers update certain components, they do so through the default browser on your computer - your default browser is always either Internet Explorer or Safari.
When the default browser (IE or Safari) is not configured correctly, the Firefox updates tend to cause conflicts. An example of this is the IO Error that you have been experiencing.
In many of these cases, IE or Safari is misconfigured or not properly installed, so Firefox has issues updating. This results in an IO error.
Solution: Please use your default browser (IE or Safari). If you are using your default browser and are still experiencing this problem, please contact us.
