• Preparing Your Images for Wix

To ensure that you maintain the quality of your photos and decrease loading time to a minimum when uploading to Wix, use the following guidelines to prepare your pictures. These guidelines apply to preparing your images in Photoshop but you may use these guidelines in any image editing software to achieve similar results.

For best results, use all of the following guidelines.
For more general information about adding pictures to your Wix site, click here.

Step 1: Setting Your Image Settings to RGB Color

RGB is the standard color model used for digital images and web colors.

To set your image settings to RGB Color:
    1. Open your image in Photoshop.
    2. From the Image menu, go to Mode, and then click RGB Color.

Your image is now set to RGB Color.

Step 2: Setting Your Image Size

For the best quality image, upload your image to the Wix Editor in the exact size that it will be viewed. Changing the size of the image within the Wix Editor may reduce the quality of your image.

To set your image size to the exact size that it will appear in your Wix site:
    1. Open your image in Photoshop.
    2. From the Image menu, click Image Size.

    3. Set your image dimensions to the size that your image will be displayed in your Wix site. For details on how to determine what your image's dimensions will be, follow the steps below.

    4. Click OK.
You have set your image size to the size that it will display in your Wix site.

Step 3: Saving Your Image for the Web

To save your image in the best format for the web:
    1. Open your image in Photoshop.
    2. From the File menu, click Save for Web & Devices.

    3. On the right, open the second drop-down menu to choose an image format. Choose PNG 8, PNG 24, or JPEG. For details on the advantages and disadvantages of each, see below.

    4. Click Save and save your image to your computer.
Your image is ready to be uploaded to the Wix Editor.

Saving as PNG 8:  This option suits images with a smaller range of colors – it is best to choose PNG 8 first and compare it to the PNG 24 option. If the images are similar then saving as PNG 8 will help reducing the loading time of your site.
Saving as PNG 24: This option suits images with a wide range of colors – it is best to save as PNG 24 if there are a lot of colors in the Color Table and you wish to keep image quality. Note that this might affect the loading time of your site.

Saving as JPG: The JPG file size will typically be smaller than PNG 24 for high quality images. However, PNG is a format that was created for the web and is a more stable, color accurate format to use when uploading photos to your site. Some browsers also display JPGs differently. If you would still like to use JPG, then please save it using 85-90 quality.

  • Image Quality Tips within the Wix Editor

Helpful tips to keep in mind while inside the Wix Editor:

    • Make sure that your Image Mode is not set to Tile. Set your image mode to Auto Crop or Manual Crop.
    • Set your Viewing Mode to True Size. To do so, go into your Editor's Settings, click the Appearance tab and under Viewing Mode, choose True Size.
    • When you upload your image into the Wix Editor, it will appear in thumbnail size. Go to Arrange > Transform and edit the Width and Height to the dimensions that you had set in Step 2 above. You may have to uncheck the box Keep Aspect Ratio before you can change the width and height.
    • When using picture galleries in the Wix Editor, first save all of your pictures with a common width or a common height. When you add a gallery in Wix, go to Arrange > Transform and change the width or height of the gallery to the common width or height of your pictures.
