Overview
When you sign up for a free Wix account, you can create and publish as many websites as you wish absolutely free. When you publish a free Wix site, it will automatically get its own site address (URL). The structure of a free Wix URL is: Wix.com/username/document name.
If you would like to connect your own domain (a domain is a site address that you own, for example: www.mydomain.com), you will first have to upgrade your account to a Premium package that includes using your own domain. You will also have to own a domain or register for one with a domain hosting company. Once you have upgraded your Wix account and have a domain, you can find instructions here to connect your domain to your Wix site.
For more information about our different packages, check out our page here.
If you already own a domain and have upgraded your Wix account, you can find complete information on connecting your domain here. -

Name Servers (DNS) vs Pointing
You can connect your domain to Wix in one of two ways: by pointing your domain to Wix's IP or by connecting to Wix's name servers. When pointing your domain to Wix’s IP, the domain name stays at your hosting company and points to the Wix servers. Your domain host remains in control of your domain records. When connecting your domain to your Wix site using name servers, the domain name stays at your hosting company but control of your domain records is transferred to Wix.
The recommended method for connecting your domain to Wix is by using our name servers. A major advantage of this is that you will be able to manage your domains and domain records in the Wix Domain Manager.Other advantages include:
Higher availability: Pointing by IP means pointing to the old Wix infrastructure. This infrastructure lacks a newly designed failover mechanism.
Better performance: Wix infrastructure is expanding to additional geographical locations. This includes an intelligent algorithm which serves user sites according to the end user location. This service will not be available for users that configured their domain by pointing to IP.
Automatic activation of new services: New services (Wix Mobile, for example) are automatically activated for users that manage their domain in the Wix Domain Manager. Users who have connected their domain by pointing will have to activate these new Wix services manually. For more information about connecting your domain to Wix, click here.
