Flash / URLS

Ticket by stooty89 | August 15, 2014 | Question
  • Hey Guys,

Is there anyway of making the pages unique urls instead of just separate flash 'pages'?

I would love to be able to link to separate pages on my website - at the moment, they all go Home.

    Cheers, J

    Hello J,

Thank you for contacting Wix support.

Your Wix HTML5 site is built using HTML5 and AJAX technology. This has many benefits, such as animations on your page transitions, the ability to have your background, header and footer stay static while only the content changes, and the ability to use all of the new HTML features as they are released such as dynamic page sizing, optimization for mobile devices, etc.

To support using this technology, the URL's of your site need to be built in the following format:

    1. This is your domain name.

    2. #! - This is called a 'hashbang'. The # signifies a 'hash fragment' and is the convention used today to link to content when using AJAX technology (similar to anchors in HTML). The ! specifies the escaped fragment. This allows search engines to understand where the content in your site is actually located – this is because the content you're seeing on your site is being rendered via AJAX technology which means that your page isn't 'reloading' – i.e., when you switch pages, your header, background and footer all stay in place. The content actually does exist on the server- but at another address. In order for the search engines to find this address, the ! is used as the 'escaped fragment', which tells the search engines where to find your content (as they cannot really crawl JavaScript properly).

You can learn more about AJAX technology  here.
    3. This is the name of the page you're on. The symbol "/", which appears next, is what we use as part of the mechanism described in point 2. This is where we specify the actual address of the page on the server

    4. This is the Page ID which is the actual address of the page on the server, and cannot currently be changed. This information is necessary because it tells the browser (and search engines) where to fetch the content from.

Important Note: In order to share links to your site you must use the full link above (1-4) including the Page ID. Removing the Page ID will yield an invalid link.

For more information on this topic, check out our Deep Linking tutorial.

Tip: Please note that if you feel that the URL is too long, you can use the Google URL shortener. Simply add your long URL, including the page #! and the page name, click Shorten URL and you will see on the right side the Google URL you can also use. It will look like this: http://goo.gl/ShONge .

Feel free to contact us should you require any further assistance.

    Kind regards, Amit

    Hi Amit,

    Thanks for this.

When my 3rd party site tries to link to one of my pages it always defaults to the home page.

    Any tips?

    Cheers, J

    Hello J,

Can you please provide us with the specific links you're trying to use in your other site, and also let us know where these links are located in your non-Wix site, so we could take a closer look at the issue?

Awaiting your reply - we'll be happy to assist!

    Hi Guys,

I'm trying to put ClickBank functionality into the site.

ClickBank requires a Purchase Page and a Thankyou Page.

I put in the links on my site to both - pages 'A Life Method' and 'Thankyou' respectively.

After you pay through the ClickBank website it should send you to your Thankyou page - but instead, goes to the homepage.

I don't know if that helps?

    Cheers, J

    Hi,

Please let us know what your domain is and what the exact URL is you are giving to Clickbank.

Currently i can see that you do not have a domain associated with your premium package.

    Best, Ritti
