To add an H1 tag: From the left side of the Editor, click the Add icon > click Text > click Title.

Double-click the text box to edit the text > delete the default text > from the text editor toolbar, change the style to Title > enter your heading.

The following is a guide to help you manage your H1 tags:

Title - H1 - (only the most top left is H1 - second (etc) title will be H2)

Page Title- H2

Heading XL - H3

Heading L - H4

Heading M - H5

Heading S - H6

The rest of the styles are mapped to paragraph tag.

Additional tips about H1 headers:

1. A proper HTML page allows only one H1 tag. If you place an H1 tag in your header or footer or if you marked it to be displayed on all pages, then you shouldn't add anymore H1 tags.

2. If you don't check the show on all pages option on your H1 text, you can add one line of text (in a paragraph or title) that has an H1 style.

3. The H1 text should be a single line. If you break lines, the H1 tag will be added only to the top line. If you would like the H1 tag to spread over more than one line simply click on shift+enter instead of only enter.

4. If any of your pages has more than one line of text with "title" style then Wix will mark the top left title as H1 and the rest will be H2.

Note: When attempting to view your HTML site as Google and other search engines see it, unlike for Flash sites, it is not possible to right click on your live HTML5 site and select to view the source code. Instead you will need to add ?_escaped_fragment_ to the end of your sites domain name. Eg. www.mydomain.com/?_escaped_fragment_

Once you are viewing the ?_escaped_fragment_ version of your site, you can right click to View Source Code, but this is only if you are interested in viewing the source code. Otherwise, you can simply view the ?_escaped_fragment_ version of your site which will show you how Google views your site.

If you want to check that the correct H1 has been updated within the source code; go to the Page Source, click Ctrl + F, and type in H1 to search for the H1 headers on your site.

    help with H1

the SEO wizard gave me this advise...
    Fix
Your home page has 1 heading tag (H1) but it is blank and has no text. Please add a heading (H1) tag to your home page of up to 150 characters.
    Fix
Your heading tag (H1) does not include any of your search phrases. Please add the search phrase "framing" to your heading (H1) tag.
I am having trouble fixing this. I don't see a blank H1 on my home page www.framingbymindy.com

      Hi,

      Thanks for contacting Wix Support.

I have accessed your site's code and, as you can see in the screenshot, noticed there is an empty H1 tag.

To add an H1 tag: From the left side of the Editor, click the Add icon > click Text > click Title.

      Hi,

Please be aware that your domain is not properly connected to Wix, as your Wix Domain configuration appears to be incorrect.
To fix this, follow the instructions here

Please allow for up to 72 hours for the changes to your DNS records to propagate.

Please note that we cannot provide support for external SEO tools. Wix sites use Ajax crawling as a way for search engines to read your website’s code. With Ajax Crawling, your content, data and design are merged together and extracted far easier and quicker by search engines. For more information click here.

As Ajax technology is relatively new, some external SEO tools may not be able to read it properly. We cannot recommend any external SEO tools, however, Wix does offer the SEO Monitoring Tool.

I recommend reading more about SEO and your Wix site in our SEO Support Center Pages.

After resolving the domain connection issue, you can follow the guidelines listed in the best reply above to set/modify/locate your H1 tag.

Please let us know if you require any further assistance.

      Hello dwatk067,

DNS Entry is your site's DNS address which is v2volunteers.com.

I have checked your site and it seems to be connected correctly now.

Feel free to contact us should you require any further assistance.

      Kind regards, Amit

      Hi Amit,

      Thanks!

I am still not sure why the information shown in the H1 and H2 tags is there or where it comes from.

I have not put these words ie  *volunteering placements in Jamaica* *key facts* etc in the SEO settings (wix builder) and as you can see they are not mentioned on the page.

      Hello,
I am experience several issues with my Wix site. One is that when you google- v2volunteers one of the first page that comes up is : http://www.v2volunteers.com/#!untitled/c11v6. However this is not the homepage and it actually says hide from Menu and has no information in the SEO settings. So I am not sure how its visible to google.
Also there seems to be two homepages; http://www.v2volunteers.com/  l http://www.v2volunteers.com/#!v2-volunteers-/mainPage . How can I just make the second appear?

      Many thanks!

      Hello,

Please note that we cannot control how Google chooses to rank your pages or what pages it likes most. As we can see you have a lot of text on this page, which maybe the reason Google "liked" it.

Also, hiding a page from menu does not mean hiding it from Google.

In order to hide the page from search engines you need to use the Page Seo settings:

Regarding the home page, the Full URL of it is www.v2volunteers.com/#!v2-volunteers-/mainPage. But what you see in the address bar is your domain name, which is also a link to your Home page, which is totally correct.

Please feel free to contact us in case you need further assistance.

      Hi,

Thank you for contacting Wix support team.

Please note that I have checked your site's source code and noticed that you had 2 <h1> tags in your code. One with the text "CONTEMPORARY WEDDING PHOTOGRAPHER" as you mentioned in the post, and the other one was "hiding" here:

I have made the necessary changes to remove this and saved your site.

Your source code now contains just one <h1> tag, which is the correct one with the text you have added.

Please see if this resolves the issue on your end.

Let us know should you need any further assistance.

      Best regards, Boris

changing text into a heading so it can be tagged for SEO

    Hi

Having gone through the SEO wizard it's clear I need to have tagged headings on my home page to optimise SEO on Google. The help instructions, though, only show you how to set up new headings. How do you change key text on your homepage from 'text' to 'heading' style and how do you then tag it? Thanks.

    h1 problem

SEO tool says I have 3 H1 titles on my one page but I can only find 1. How do I see whats going on so I can do the recommendation of only 1 H1 title per page?

    • Ben Wix Team

Replied by Ben July 13, 2014

Please note that your home page currently has 4 H1 tags set: "Real Estate Crowd Funding" and three blank H1 tags.

Please note that the blank H1 tags are resulting from line breaks without text in the text box containing "Real Estate Crowd Funding". To delete these H1 tags, simply remove all line breaks without text. If you are unable to do so, I recommend deleting the entire text box, and adding it again (without any unnecessary spaces).

Please let us know if you require any further assistance.
