wix Wix Team

Every Wix site has an XML sitemap that assists in getting content recognized by search engines (and Google Analytics).

The sitemap is dynamically generated on our server and, therefore, is always up to date with any pages that you add or remove from your site.

You can view your sitemap by adding sitemap.xml to the end of your domain name. Example: mydomainname.com/sitemap.xml .

Note: If you cannot see the Sitemap, please make sure that you have selected to Allow search engines to find my site from within your site's SEO settings.

All these comments dont really at all tell you how to add a sitemap to google webmaster its wix team tells you where to find it but doesn't tell you want to copy from sitemap.xml and paste it in google webmaster.

      Hi,

Thank you for contacting the Wix support team.

I checked your domain connection and it appears that your pointing configuration in your registrar (not Wix, but your actual domain host) is incorrect.

I have followed all your instructions to have the 1and1 servers use wix servers instead, but Google webmaster still cannot find my sitemap.  Wix is supposed to be easy, but this has been far from it.

      Hi,

As you can see here, your domain nameservers are still not connected to Wix.

Please ask your domain host to change the namservers as explained here

Please follow these steps and allow 72 hours for full propagation.

      Hello,

You will need to change the NS of your domain to NS1.WIX.COM and NS2.WIX.COM. We cannot do this for you as this needs to be done via your current registrar.

I have re-added the domain to your configuration. Once the nameservers are updated to point at Wix, the domain will work as expected.

In order to connect the namerservers, send your domain hosting company the following message:

I have built a site on Wix.com. Please connect my domain to their name servers- NS1.WIX.COM (IP address 216.139.213.90) and NS2.WIX.COM (IP address 95.211.144.195).

After sending your message, please allow up to 72 hours for changes to get updated (propagate).

I dont want to point my name ervers to wix...your servers go down to often.  I want wix to remove anything youve done so my current domain host handles all records and just redirects to wix.  I have removed all settings in my wix control panel, but my site is still down (but everything is working from the hosting end).  This is costing me money and very frustrating that you cant fix it!!!

      Hey,

In order to hide a page from the sitemap you need to set it as a subpage and password protect it.

To create a subpage: From the left side of the Editor click the Pages icon > hover over the square next to the relevant page > drag the page to the right.

Note: You will only be able to see your subpages, and the drop down menu functionality, in Preview and Live Mode. To go to Preview Mode, click Preview from the top menu of your Editor.

For more information about drop down menus, click here.

Let us know if you need additional help.

All the best, Dean - Wix Team

Not so! It's not need to set it as subpage. Enough to password protect it.
I know this way, but why this thusness?
If I check option "Hide from search engines", why it stay visible? It's not correct!
If I check HIDE option - I wait for item is hidden! But it's not so!

      Hey,

If you choose to hide a page from search engines it may take time until it is completely removed as the search engine needs to recrawl the new version of your site which can take up to 3 months.

Hiding pages from search engines will not hide them from the Sitemap.

Hi there, Quick question… In Google/Bing Webmaster Tools there is an option to submit a sitemap. Would this be as simple as copying at from the /sitemap.xml or is this something that is automatically done after publishing a Wix site? Just a bit confused.

(I have ensured that the 'allow search engines to find your site' option is set to on and can see my XML file)

      Hi,

Your site is crawled by Google in 1-3 months from the moment you publish it. However, your site isn't submitted to Google automatically.

Please click here for information about how to submit your site to search engines (scroll down to #2).

The hashbang symbols (#!) in the URL are part of the deep linking mechanism and cannot be removed or altered.

This symbol is used for sites that utilize AJAX and is for better visibility within google.
You can read more here .
You can find more information about deep linking here .

    Hi

Google Webmaster tools show an error when i try to add a sitemap.

When i type in mydomain.com.au/sitemap.xml into google (firefox) url bar the following is shown

'This XML file does not appear to have any style information associated with it.'

Would this have anything to do with google webmaster tools rejecting my sitemap?

    Thanks in advance

    • Ritti Wix Team

Replied by Ritti May 27, 2014

      Hi,

What the "error" means is that there is no stylesheet information provided on how to display the page. Stylesheets are required when viewing an xml in a browser. It's just a warning not an error. There is nothing wrong structurally with the xml file.
