Have you searched for the correct domain?

Make sure that you have entered the correct domain into the search engine.

Have you selected to allow search engines to crawl your site?

Make sure that your site is published and that the Allow search engines to find my site toggle in the Settings > SEO (Google) section is enabled.  If this setting is turned off (red), then your site will not be available for search engines to crawl.

Has your site been indexed yet?

Be aware that it can take anywhere from 1 – 3 months for your site to be crawled and indexed in order to appear in search engines such as Google or Yahoo. This waiting period is the same for all websites, not just those created using Wix.

To see if Google has indexed your site, as well as the last time this occurred i.e. to see a cached version of your site, enter your site’s URL with the word cache: before it in the Google search. For example: cache:www.mydomain.com If your site comes up, this means Google has already indexed it.

Remember, if your site has not been crawled and it has been less than 3 months since publishing, don’t worry – give it a little time and try again.

Alternatively, you can help speed up this process by submitting your website to search engines directly.

If your site is indexed, but doesn’t appear for certain keyword searches?

Once you have established that your site has been crawled and indexed, getting the search results you want is the next big step and something that takes time and consistent effort – even for the most experienced SEO experts.

Remember, the more websites Google has on a certain subject, the more competition there will be to get a higher rank. We have a lot of SEO information available for you to read here and more suggested reading within our blog here.

We also suggest that you use the Wix SEO Monitoring Tool.

If your site used to appear in search engines, but no longer seems to be indexed?

This could be for a myriad of reasons e.g. black hat SEO.

There are certain techniques that Google will penalize you for using.

      Hey Penny,

I can see you have not set the SEO meta-data (title, description and keywords) in the individual pages in your Editor.

Please be aware that your page meta data is given priority over your site meta data. This allows you to use a unique title and description for each page, relevant to that page's content.

This means that if you have filled in your home page meta data, it will be displayed in Google search results. Remember, if it is deemed weak or incomplete, Google will choose the next most relevant content on the page to display, so make sure to fill these out fully.

Your site meta data will be used when your page meta data is blank.

In addition, the SEO Monitoring Tool generates a 'Home Page Report', meaning that your home page meta data is analyzed.

Be sure to update your home page meta data (as well as the meta data of other pages). To add/modify meta data for your site or pages please click here.

Please note the SEO Monitoring Tool analyzes your site according to the exact search phrases you enter into its initial screen. In this case, the search phrases you inputted do not exist in your home page title or description meta tags. If you would like these phrases to be included in your home page title and description meta tags, please make sure to incorporate them in your title and description organically (instead of simply listing them).

Remember, whenever you make changes to your website, these changes need to be crawled again by search engines, such as Google, before they appear in search results.

It can take anywhere from 1 to 3 months for Google to update its database. To speed the process you can re-submit, if you haven’t already, your website directly to Google through http://www.google.com/addurl

Hi WIX, compliments all around. One question though on your SEO Wixard: So far I have successfully followed all of the suggestions it has made in regards to highlighting my key search phrases. Very useful.

The last missing piece of the puzzle, however, is in regards to the section called "Image Name" as it relates to the homepage:

Specifically, the Wizard has instructed me to make my search phrases "the image name to the relevant images on my home page". The problems is that despite following the instructions, I keep getting the same message.  I have tried renaming them in every combination possible yet I still keep getting the same message.

Any ideas what the problem might be?

(Not sure if it makes a difference to you, but the site is www.starbright.photography)

    Thanks in advance,

    Paul Pacey

      Hello paulpacey,

Thank you for contacting Wix support.

I can see that a few images in your galleries lack title and description.

You can add a title and description to images in your gallery.

To add a title and description: Click the gallery to select it > from the pop-up menu, click Organize Images > click the relevant image > under Title add the title > under Descriptionadd the description.

Note: The title added to the images in your gallery will be used as the alt tag for these images.

You can find more information about galleries  here .

Feel free to contact us should you require any further assistance.

      Kind regards, Amit

Thanks a lot Amit for the reply.

I already did what you have suggested with all the other images on the site. In fact, at first I had named ALL of the photos (files) with my keywords, but then the Wizard said that they appeared TOO many times, so I had to start deleting them one by one until the Wizard approved. There are still 31 images on my home page that contain my search phrases (and only 3 without), and yet the Wizard keeps telling me to name them. Hence, the confusion.

      Any other ideas or suggestions?

      Dear Paul,

I wouldn't worry too much about having the exact number of keywords on the site - this isn't as important as good text content, a proper H1 and the business name in text, and connection of the site with your Google+ business profile and Google Webmaster Tools

Please let us know if you need further assistance.

    Hi,

I was able to get Google index my website immediately by following their directions. Now I am trying the same for Yahoo, I am using Wix to host my website and Goddady is my domain name server registrar. Yahoo tells me to add CNAME in Godaddy. Will I need to add a CNAME record in Godday or wix to index my website in Yahoo?
