Once your site has been upgraded and you have attached your own domain, Wix erases the free domain from its sitemap.  When Google re-crawls your site, it will see this change and erase the free domain from its listings as well.  However this process is not immediate and might take a few weeks.

To improve results and speed up the process, Wix now also incorporates a new, automatic, no-index tag to the free domain. This will expedite its removal from the search engine listings.

I connected my domain to my Wix site recently, but if I google the site name, the old free Wix URL comes up. Could you fix this or explain to me how to do it? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

      Hi annadalerobinson,

Thank you for contacting Wix support!

Please note that Google simply needs to re-crawl your site in order to reflect the current version. You can re-submit your website directly to Google here.

      Hi,

If you don't want your site to be visible to search engines, simply go to Settings > SEO > uncheck the box “Allow search engines find my site”.

Once you have unchecked “Allow search engines find my” be sure to save your document!

However, please be aware that if the site has already been indexed, it can take about one month for search engines to update their databases.

Let us know if you require further assistance

      Many thanks, Barrios

      Hi,

To find out how to hide individual pages on your site from search engines, please click here.

Whenever you make changes and publish your site, these changes need to be crawled again by search engines (such as Google) before they appear in search results. If the pages have already been indexed, you will need to wait for search engines to update their database before the pages are removed.

Note: If you choose to password protect a page, this, too, will prevent search engines from crawling and indexing that page. This means that password protected pages will not appear in search results. For more information on password protecting pages, click here.

Let us know if you require further assistance.

To hide your whole site from search engines, from the left of your Editor, click the 'Settings' tab (the gear icon) > Click SEO (Google) > Click the toggle next to 'Allow Search Engines to find my site' (make sure it is red)  > Publish your site.

We are here should you require further assistance.

      Many thanks, Barrios

I began my website with Wix in July 2013. My website was very high in the search engines starting in October 2013.  I wasn't updating it regularly so it disappeared from the search engines.  Is there any way to retrieve an earlier version of my website when it was ranking so high?

      Hi,

You can revert your site to an earlier version within the editor but it will not reflect in search engines result.

Unfortunately if your site disappeared from Google, your will need to wait until Google will crawl your site again.

Please keep in mind: In order to keep the good result, you will need to update your site constantly.

You can help speed up this process by submitting your website to search engines directly.

Please note that this is a previously cached version of your domain, prior to you registering and attaching it to your Wix site. Once your Wix site has been crawled and indexed, this previously cached version will be replaced by your current site.

I can see from our records that you published your Wix website on 13/09/2013.

Please be aware that it can take from 1 to 3 months for Google to update its database and for your site to be indexed. Finding your site using your relevant keywords may take even more time.

One way to speed up this process is to submit your website directly to search engines. Use the following links to submit your site to:

      - Google

      - Bing

Wix guarantees that all of the text and meta tags on your site are being scanned by search engines, however we cannot guarantee that Google will choose to assign your website a high rank, this part is up to you.

Make sure that your websites content has been optimized in accordance with the advice offered in our SEO Learning Center. We also recommend that you use the SEO Wizard & Monitoring tool for a more in depth analysis of your site’s SEO.

Out of curiosity I typed my personal email into the google search engine, a wix page that I had previously created but never used popped up. I have since deleted the page but the link still appears, will google erase this link with time?

Yes, Google removes inactive links, so the next time Google crawls your site the link will probably get deleted.

      Hello,

Thanks for your concern - this information is not sensitive and therefore not dangerous if exposed to the public.

You can set your domain's registration mode to Private, which will prevent people from being able to receive that (and your) information - but such a registration costs extra, and can be set only when purchasing or renewing your domain subscription.

Let us know if you need anything else, we'll be happy to further assist you!

      Hey,

Remember, whenever you make changes to your website, these changes need to be crawled again by search engines, such as Google, before they appear in search results.

It can take anywhere from 1 to 3 months for Google to update its database. To speed the process you can re-submit, if you haven’t already, your website directly to Google through http://www.google.com/addurl
