    Hello ,

in order to have a backup copy of my work i understand that i have to duplicate my site. But since the site is still under construction and not completed, what has to be done every time i make changes to my original site? Delete the duplicated and create a new one?

When creating a duplication of your site, the new copy is no longer effected by the changes you make to the original one.

If you wish for the changes you make to the original site to appear in the duplicated version, you may either adjust them manually for both sites each time you update, or indeed duplicate the site again each time you save a new version.

I'm afraid this isn't a valid URL. In order for us to be able to locate your account and access your records, we need you to provide us with a valid address that's made of: username.wix.com/sitename

      Awaiting your reply.

    Duplicate Website

How may I duplicate a website with a different URL?

      Hi cltorbert,

Please refer to the Best Reply of this thread to learn how to duplicate your website.
For Free Wix site, URL (a site address) has the following format:

      (Change Sitename)
It is not possible to create multiple sites with a same sitename.
The duplicated site will automatically named as "COPY OF ~".
Of course, you can type in the new name for the duplicated site.
Then the new name will appear at the last part of your URL.

      (Change Username)
If you wish to have "Username" part of your website changed,
you can then transfer this site to another account.
Each account has a unique username, so your duplicated site will also be:

In this case, you can still keep the same site name if you wish to do so.
To learn how to transfer your site to another account, please click HERE.

Should you require further assistance, please feel free to contact us anytime.
      Thank you.

You can easily transfer a Wix site from one account to another! This process will create a copy in the other account.
Please follow the instructions here or check out the video below.

Please note: It isn't possible to transfer a premium package from one account to another, so if you intend to upgrade the site, be sure to do it after its been transferred.

I understand the procedure for making a duplicate site and for giving it a different name.

So I create and publish SITE A then duplicate it and call it SITE B.

I then work on SITE B developing it by say adding a 2nd language and get it to where I want it.  How do I now publish site B in preference to SITE A?

If you provide us with more information as to what are you trying to do, we could advise you better.

    Does Wix do backups?

I love using the Wix editor and have quickly made our businesses website into a beautiful, up to date version of what it was. I am very happy with the system but I keep thinking about one thing that isnt really clear to me. Does Wix backup the servers and files associated with the sites? I know there is no way to download the website and back it up myself so can you give me some peace of mind as far as my data is concerned? Is there any chance I could lose the entire site? I looked around and couldnt find an answer, I apologize if Ive missed it somewhere. Thanks!

      Hi wgilliam,
I understand your concern. As you mentioned, it is not possible to download data from the website created on Wix platform. However, you can create a copy of your website by clicking "Duplicate" from My Account page.

To learn more about the servers Wix currently uses,
      please click HERE.

I'm creating a website using my account. This website will soon have its own domain that will be provided on different account. Is there a way to copy the work I've done on my account and transfer it to another WIX account so I don't have to recreate it from scratch?

Hi. The site is www.suspiciousmoles.com  I have just put one page up for the moment because it's loading so slowly. I've changed the images to png but it's still too slow. Some people have said it takes up to 2 minutes to load up. Please can you tell me what to change to make it quicker. Shall I uncheck the 'hide' buttons so you can see it? Thanks

Please make sure to upload the files as .jpgs, not .pngs, for a faster loading time.

You can find more information here.

I hope this helps! Please let us know if we could assist you further.

Hi Leah. The advice - use jpgs not pngs is the opposite to your advice on preparing images:http://www.wix.com/support/main/html5/wix-editor/media-images-and-galleries/adding-images/improving-image-quality#

I have changed all my images to pngs after reading this advice but if you say that loading time will be faster with jpgs then I'll change them back. I'm not bothered about quality, only time to load.

      Please can you clarify?

Unfortunately I am unable to recreate your difficulties.

Your site loads super quickly on my end.

There are two main factors that affect the loading time:

      1. The size of your website

      2. The Internet connection that you have through your ISP

Please also try different browsers, connections and devices:

To download the latest Google Chrome browser please click here
To download the latest Firefox browser please click here
To download the latest Safari browser please click here

Thanks Yotam. The browser it doesn't work on (my customer's) is IE8. You can't upgrade this browser with Windows XP. So this might be a lot of my customers becuase they're older and have older PC's. Pls help. WHat can I do?

    • Yotam Wix Team

Replied by Yotam September 20, 2013

Unfortunately Wix is not compatible with IE8 because IE8 does not support HTML5 technology.

Many large technology companies, such as Google, have stopped supporting older browsers (IE8 included) in order to focus on advancing the future of internet technology (like 'HTML5').

Perhaps most notable is that Microsoft has been forcing IE updates from IE8 to IE9 through windows updates (although you can opt-out of this) - for the same reasons stated above. You can read more in the Windows blog post from last year here.

Unfortunately we will not be able to provide support for IE8 and other older browsers that do not support HTML5.

You can also read the article on the Wix Blog here.

Wix is compatible with Internet Explorer (version 9 and above), Firefox, Chrome and Safari.

If your site visitors have Internet Explorer 8, you can add this code so they will be prompted to update their browser (please note, this code does not fix IE8 inability to support HTML5). Please follow these steps:

      1. Copy this code:

      <!--[if lt IE 9]> <div style=' clear: both; height: 59px; padding:0 0 0 15px; position: relative;'>
      <a href="http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/internet-explorer/downloads/ie-9/worldwide-languages" TARGET="_blank">
      <img src=" http://storage.ie6countdown.com/assets/100/images/banners/warning_bar_0000_us.jpg" border="0" height="42" width="820"
alt="You are using an outdated browser. For a faster, safer browsing experience, upgrade for free today." /></a></div> <![endif]-->

      2. Open your HTML editor >  Add > Apps > HTML
      3. Click on the HTML app > Settings.
      4. Change the mode to "HTML code" and insert the code above.
Please note that you can also find the code  here - you will have to change [if lt IE 7] to [if lt IE 9].
To download the latest IE version, click here.
For more information about adding an Internet Explorer 8 Detection widget and for other widget design options, click  here.

Unfortunately, HTML is not compatible with IE8, it could also result in the loading performance.

So, how does www.wix.com work on IE8?

    • Yotam Wix Team

Replied by Yotam September 21, 2013

Most of Wix.com was not originally built using HTML5 technology, we cannot guarantee that all sections of the site will work for you when using IE8.

In general we cannot predict what IE8 will choose to display and what not.
