This is very discouraging to just rely on Wix servers to hold the site without user having the ability to save site backup offline.  Wix has a great setup and easy to use site hosting but it is unfortunate that they can trust users with the ability to save the site/hosting they pay for.

How come you guys have not yet added the functionality of having different backgrounds on different pages yet? seems a pretty obvious and useful option to have? Lost a couple of jobs because of this prob!

Currently this is not a possibility.
The browser background of your site stays the same throughout your site.
You can change the browser background by going to "Design" > Background -> and choose the desired background.

For more information about backgrounds click here.

Please note that we work hard these days to make it possible to set a different background for each page. As we try to make it easy to use, as all the other features, we are debating on the best way to do it.
Here is where you might help us!
      Would you:
      A. Use it to make one, or few pages different from the "main background", while most of your site pages will have the same background.
      B. Use it to make each page with its own unique background.

Hi, Besides making a copy ('Duplicate site') of the site that is stored on the Wix server, is there any way that a copy of a website can be stored offline on a hard drive in case the Wix server is compromised? I refer to HTML 5 sites created using Wix.

No. Wix doesn't support the option of exporting files created using Wix to an external destination / Hosts as we host all your Wix creations on our servers.

    Backup site

    Hi Wix Team,

we would like to back up our site, so that if there is ever a crash or wipe-out, that we have it stored somewhere and can load it up again. Does wix offer such a back-up copy or another way to store a copy of the site safely ?

    Thank you!

    Duplicating my website

Hello  Few questions regarding duplicating your website. Will duplicating an active site effect the active site/. Is this considered a way to backup your site?   Thanks

    • Ellie Wix Team

Replied by Ellie March 25, 2014

      Hi carsappraisals,

Thank you for contacting us. Duplicating a site will not have any effect over a live site. It can be considered a way to "back up" your site but please note that it does so at the current saved version of the site. Therefore any changes made to your site will not be reflected in your duplicated site.

Please let us know if you have any further questions we may assist you with.

      All the best, Ellie

Is it possible for a client to view various design proposal sites I have created so they can decide which version they prefer without having to use my log in details

OK. If we can't do that can we change the login details to a client's preferred email and password so they can continue using these when we hand over the finished site to them?

and further to that last question can you help with this.

If we are building a site for a client using Wix, how are they supposed to be able to view progress without our having to give out our login details or create loads of pdf screenshots to send them or visit their houses/offices to show them?

      Hi to9301,

Please note that if you do not want to provide your log in details to your client it is best to open an Account for them where you both are able to log in, without having them see other websites that you are working on.

You can easily transfer a Wix site from one account to another. This process will create a copy in the other account.

      1. Go to "My Account" -> click on "Manage & Edit Site" next to the relevant site.
      2. Under "Site Actions" on the right side, click on "More" -> "Transfer Site".
      3. Add all relevant information and follow the steps.

You can also follow instructions hereIt isn't possible to transfer a premium package from one account to another- so make sure you upgrade the site in the client's account, not in yours.

Hope this helps! If you have any further questions please let us know.

You can transfer your premium plan (and domain) from one site to another located within the same account.

To transfer your Premium status to another site:

      1. Sign into Wix.com.
      2. Click My Account.
      3. Under My Account, next to Manage Premium, click Packages.
      4. From the Packages tab, under your Premium site, click Transfer.
      5. From the Transfer window that opens, mark the radio dial below the site that you would like to transfer to and click OK.

Your premium plan is transferred from one site to another.

Note: The upgrade features will be removed immediately from the previous Wix site you just 'transferred' the upgrade from.
For further information regarding the Manage Premium options click here.

Note: please remember to change all information under 'Settings' in the editor such as SEO information.
You can change your domain in the domain manager. Click on "My account" -> "Manage Premium" -> "Domains".

For more information click here .

    can i replicate a site?

i want to create another wix site based on similar content to one of my current sites, it will be for a different domain and different geography - rather than having to redo from scratch, can i replicate a site and then do it from there

please refer to the Best Reply of this thread to learn how to duplicate your site.
After the copied site is created, please transfer that site to a new account by following the instructions on THIS THREAD.
Please note that you can only transfer websites to another account, but not the premium packages. If you wish to connect a domain to the copied site, please first transfer it to the other account, then upgrade it.

Can I archive my Wix site?

Hello! I am interested in archiving my Wix site for personal use and for safety purposes. Would using a program like HTTrack violate any of Wix's terms of use? If so, are there any other methods/programs you would recommend?
