Site performance is very important to us at Wix! We have recently made many changes that should improve the performance and loading time of your site.

If you are still experiencing performance issues on your site, it may be because of one of the following factors:

- The speed of your own connection or an overload at your ISP during peak hours
- The amount of content on your site or home page
-  A large number of animations and/or animated behaviors/effects on your site
- Very large MP3 files which load on your home page
- A slower computer (i.e. with a slow processor or low RAM) which may load the site slowly, as it cannot process the information quickly enough.

In order to optimize your site for speed, try to follow these guidelines:

- Don't use too many animations on your homepage
- Try to use a uniform font for your site (1-3 fonts)
- If you decide to use an MP3 on your homepage, try to use a smaller file.
- If you use many shapes and components in the editor to create a larger image, it would be best to create a single image, with these elements, on your computer and then upload it to Wix.

If, after optimizing your site for speed, you continue to experience performance issues, we ask that you please load the site using www.webpagetest.org (an independent 3rd party site that will test the speed).

If you are not satisfied with the results received in the site test, and your is indeed loading slowly, please send us the link to the results, as well as your site URL. We will investigate the results and review your site. If there is indeed an issue on our end, we will do our best to investigate it and fix it ASAP. For further assistance, please post in this FAQ.

    Hello.

I have just set up a new web site for a client. But the client is not satisfied with the speed of the web site, they think its too slow. The site is: familiehytta.no

    So here are my questions:

    - Will it help to upgrade to eCommerse plan?

    - I don´t think my images are saved as progressive jpegs, will it help to save all images as progressive jpegs?

    - Will it help to delete images I have saved that are not in use?

    - Is there anything else I can do to speed up the website?

I hope you can help me with this, because the client says they we will have to look for another solution if it is not possible to get the website faster than it is today.

    Thank you in advance.

    Best regards,

    Lise L. from Norway

      Hi Lise,

      Thanks for contacting Wix Support.

      1. The eCommerce package has no relation to a site's speed.

      2. Indeed, your site received a score of 'F' for progressive .jpegs on a test i performed.

To rectify this, you will need to save your images in progressive .jpeg format. If you are using Gimp to improve your image quality, you will be able to make these changes in the Advanced Options section.

A great way to increase site performance is to optimize the images that you use. To find out more, please click here.

      3. Removing any extra media will make your site lighter, then faster.

If you have any further questions, please let us know.

    Hey guys!

I have noticed that since I upgraded to the ecommerce package my site (www.slidesmith.net) loads really very slowly, sometimes over 30-40 secs.

Here are the test results: http://www.webpagetest.org/result/140723_S3_B3V/

But still I checked this on multiple systems, the site does not load until 15-20 secs minimum with a 512 kbps broadband connection. Could you do something to speed things up?

    Best Regards

As you can see in the results your site scored 5 seconds, which is a good score (and well under 30 seconds).

      Hi,

Please note that your site has multiple issues that can be the cause for the downtime.

First, you have a lot of pages, which is the main issue. Try cutting down as much as you can on you page quantities. Try uniting pages.

Second, which you can see in your test results, your site scored an F on Progressive JPEGs.

To ensure that you maintain the quality of your photos and decrease loading time to a minimum when uploading to Wix, please follow the guidelines here.

You can find more information about how to upload pictures here.

Thank you so much for the help!!  We have written a Photoshop action which will convert all of our images to Progressive JPEGS.  There are currently 1800 very heavy images throughout the site. Once we do this across the whole site, will still have the issue of 'a lot of pages'? We feel like we have a robust content rich site. 1) Can we pay an additional monthly fee to increase server support for our site?  2)  how many pages is too many?  Its hard for us to combine pages.   Do you think compressing all of our images across the entire site will help overall?  Also, are you saying that having lots of pages affects the loading speed of our home page (www.miamivillarealty.com) as well?  why?  Does your server load pages in the background? or is it that the server is overloaded when our site is hit? Your advice is greatly appreciated.

      Hi,

Please note that if you look into the report, you'll be able to see which images are more problematic than others - press the graph - and you'll be able to see which components take more time to load.

All the .jpg / .gif files can be easily optimized - you can copy the address from the graph and open the url in a new browser window, to see which image is problematic.

In this way you won't have to change all images.

Unfortunately the only bandwidth additions that we offer are with the different premium plans - since you have VIP and Unlimited, you have the highest capacity of bandwidth Wix offers.

Regarding merging pages, we offer a few solutions one of them is using lists instead of pages with the Wix list builder.

The List Builder allows you to create and manage lists on your site. Lists can be used to build product catalogs, FAQs, restaurant menus, news and more!

To add a list: From the left side of the Editor, click the Add icon > click List Builder > choose the list that you would like to add (existing lists will be available for selection here) > click OK > choose the list type > click Add to site.

Double-click the list to open List Settings. From here you can create or update list items, change the look of any of the fields of your list items or set your list options.

You can find more information and instructions about how to use it here or watch the video below:

      I hope this is helpful,

Am new to Wix (using my domain thru 1&1 to point to my Wix) and have had really inconsistent loading of the site. It works perfectly a little less than half the time, and the rest of the time it won't load AT ALL. Get the following message:

    Server not found

Firefox can't find the server at www.angelicarjackson.com.

Check the address for typing errors such as ww.example.com instead of www.example.com
If you are unable to load any pages, check your computer's network connection.
If your computer or network is protected by a firewall or proxy, make sure that Firefox is permitted to access the Web.

Have also had other people say they go to it and can't access it. This is not acceptable; I love the template but need the site to be up.

      Hi,

I tested your site on our end and did not experience any loading time issues, for results please click here.

There are two main factors that affect the loading time:

      1. The size of your website

      2. The Internet connection that you have through your ISP

Since we cannot do anything to help your site regarding factor 2, your main goal should

      be optimizing your site's size.

Heavy content such as galleries, video's, HTML coding etc. will cause longer load times.

To ensure that you maintain the quality of your photos and decrease loading time to a minimum, please follow the guidelines  here .

Also please note that each page in your site is loaded separately so that if you have large amounts of media in your site it is recommended to spread it on different pages and not all on one page.

We are here should you require further assistance.

      Many thanks, Barrios

      Hello artistjenm,

Thank you for contacting Wix support.

I have also tested your site's loading speed and have received these results.

I have also tried testing from different locations and concluded that your site receives poor 'First Byte Time' due to server locations. We are working all the time to improve server speed, but sometimes computers located in far places (e.g. Australia) trying to connect to the site will receive poor First Byte Time grades.

Feel free to contact us should you require any further assistance.

      Kind regards, Amit
