Site performance is very important to us at Wix! We have recently made many changes that should improve the performance and loading time of your site.

If you are still experiencing performance issues on your site, it may be because of one of the following factors:

- The speed of your own connection or an overload at your ISP during peak hours
- The amount of content on your site or home page
-  A large number of animations and/or animated behaviors/effects on your site
- Very large MP3 files which load on your home page
- A slower computer (i.e. with a slow processor or low RAM) which may load the site slowly, as it cannot process the information quickly enough.

In order to optimize your site for speed, try to follow these guidelines:

- Don't use too many animations on your homepage
- Try to use a uniform font for your site (1-3 fonts)
- If you decide to use an MP3 on your homepage, try to use a smaller file.
- If you use many shapes and components in the editor to create a larger image, it would be best to create a single image, with these elements, on your computer and then upload it to Wix.

If, after optimizing your site for speed, you continue to experience performance issues, we ask that you please load the site using www.webpagetest.org (an independent 3rd party site that will test the speed).

If you are not satisfied with the results received in the site test, and your is indeed loading slowly, please send us the link to the results, as well as your site URL. We will investigate the results and review your site. If there is indeed an issue on our end, we will do our best to investigate it and fix it ASAP. For further assistance, please post in this FAQ.

      Hi,

Thank you for contacting Wix support!

I've visited your site and it loaded quickly on my end.  I've also run your site through a third-party speed test and here are the results. Viewing the result, I can see that your site was fully loaded in 2 seconds and got a great score!

I have noticed that your images aren't optimized. To ensure that you maintain the quality of your photos and decrease loading time to a minimum, please follow the guidelines here .

I can also see that your site failed the progressive JPEG's test. Please follow this link providing you with steps on how to deal with this issue.

In general, please note the performance of your HTML5 site is affected by a number of factors, including the size of your website and amount of content on it, your internet connection speed and your browser version. Using the most updated browser version and ensuring that your internet connection is stable and running at a high speed will help ensure that you are viewing your site in optimal conditions.

For best performance, it is recommended to follow these guidelines:

      1. Optimizing the images on your site will have a great affect on its performance and loading time. For tips on adding images to ensure they take up as little space as possible, please click here.

      2. Distribute your content on several pages. This will improve loading times and overall load.

      3. Fonts take up a lot of CPU power and loading time. Please try not to use more than 2 fonts on a single page. Fonts in plain, bold, italic, bold & italic are all considered to be different fonts! The best solution would be to use browser text and not simple text.

Hope this helps. For further assistance please don't hesitate to contact us again.

      Thanks, Rony Customer Solutions

Wix, look how many people complain about their wix site loading times. I've posted numerous times saying that I wanted a fix for the "chunky" way my sites load and the fact they feel slow which cheapens my business, I feel.

Can we hear what, if anything, wix are doing to resolve these issues? (Please don't reply with that generic "improving performance is very important to us" copy and paste message. Your clients are looking for real answers, from real people, about real action taking place.)

    Looking forward to your reply.

You guys/gals are great. So patient. When I asked my iPhone and other Droid owner friends to check it out and it was fine...your solution of clearing the catch of course worked. Still, optimizing photos for the web with photoshop was worth the time.

I've been telling lots of people they are crazy not to use Wix.

I wrote 10,000 lines of code in the day with dBase. I created a web site from scratch writing code years ago.  This is simply amazing. THANKS

Ok, working on it. Instructions say to convert to .png but when I converted a 1.5mg jpg to PNG it became 12MB. That doesn't seem logical. You also say The best solution would be to use browser text and not simple text. What is "browser text" and can I have that in mobil only?

      Replied by Noa Yesterday

      Hi,

We did not necessarily say you have to change the .jpg to .png. You should see which is better - in this case it seems that .jpg are preferable.

By browser text we mean text that is inserted directly to the editor rather than simple text- which is text that is copied and pasted from another document.

The loading time of your site is excellent- less than one minute, so I wouldn't hassle over this too much, but I would advise to keep these details in mind when updating the site.

      Your support is amazing.

However, after my problem is the loading on my Samsung Galaxy s4. It was instant, then I changed a few fonts and added just a couple of jpgs and it won't load on my phone at all.

I followed the instructions on RGB color, size, save for web as png, and replaced every jpg I could find but the speed test said it failed everything, then another test said failed jpeg again.  The link said png was the ideal. I guess I could try jpeg but since it might be something else I did......

      test: http://www.webpagetest.org/result/140727_TV_HDH/

Somehow I mucked it up, at least for mobil. Does it load on your smart phone? The first page loads but I get the rotating cog and it is a blank page going to any other page. Used to work.

Is it time to hire the pros you list?

      Hi,

Thanks so much for your feedback!

I tried loading the site on an iphone and experienced no issues at all.

Please try clearing the cache of your mobile browser.

For instructions on how to clear the cache on your mobile device, please select your device from the list below:

      Android

      iPhone

      iPad

      Blackberry

Regarding the "F" grade in the test  of the progressive jpegs.

progressive jpeg is one format of many image formats (png, jpg etc..). The webpage test tests this format specifically. However, progressive jpeg is not neccesarilly the best format for your site and needs, therefore this "f" grade is not so relevant. You can feel pretty secure using the file formats we recommended earlier.

      All the best,

      Hi,

      Thank you for reaching out,

Looking into your webpage I can see you've placed all the products on one page, since this is a big amount of data that needs to be loaded, at once, it takes a longer time to load.

I would recommend spearing your products across 3-4 pages.

I also suggest making sure that your images are optimized for the web.

Please take down the images you placed on your site and convert them to .jpeg files, this will compress the size of your images by more than half and will allow your site to load faster.

You can get more information on converting images to a .jpeg format here.

Let us know if you need additional assistance.

      Hi,

      Thanks for contacting Wix Support.

I have checked your site using a speed test, the results of which can be seen here. Your site received a score of 'F' for progressive .jpegs.

To rectify this, you will need to save your images in progressive .jpeg format. If you are using Gimp to improve your image quality, you will be able to make these changes in the Advanced Options section.

A great way to increase site performance is to optimize the images that you use. To find out more, please click here!

Hello - WIX has been great for us for many reasons, except for LOAD TIME.  I have run the test several times and usually it takes 13-15 seconds for anything to appear, and up to 45s for the main page to fully load!!

    Site: http://www.mtutd.info

    Results are here.

    Any ideas/suggestions?

I know we have a lot of content on the main page...our marketing guys wants it that way. If we could get the background to appear quickly I think it will help keep users on the site longer. Would appreciate your thoughts on this.

    ThanksWIX!

      Hello,

      Thank you for your question.

I have also run a speed test on your sites, whose results may be reviewed here.

I can see your site contains a lot of heavy images. Moreover, as you mentioned, your homepage contains a lot of heavy content.

      Please do the following:

      1. Spread content across your site away from the homepage. You can use our List Builder in the process.

      2. Please compress your images. You can find instructions here.

      All the best, Or

Hello Or   - thanks for your ideas!  I compressed all the images on the main page, the largest being the back ground at about 330KB (any lower and it gets blurry), but most images are around the 100 KB or less size. Most of them were already compressed, but I did find two images that I was able to shrink quite a bit.

The load time improved, but it is still way too slow (9 - 15 seconds for the first thing to appear)...and I need to get that down as low as possible.  Any other ways around this? Is there a way to have a "LOADING" ticker or graphic appear in the first second?  There is research that shows this type of gadget improves conversion.  I know a landing page might help as well, but that's something WIX has not developed yet.

I know there is too much content, but that's not something I can change (marketing department).

Also, the speed test's graph of "bytes" seems to show that images are not a big factor in load, but Javascript seems to be the culprit?  Maybe I'm not interpreting that correctly?

So any tips, ideas, thoughts, please share - this is key to growing our site  and lowering that bounce rate!!

      Hi,

I do not know why you received such high results.

When opening your site the loading speed is fairly good.

I ran another test- the results are much better.See them here

If you look at the pie charts at the bottom of the test you'll see that most of the elements effecting the slow loading are js and images.

js= java script. This is the result of the large number of components.

images= in the results, you can also look at the table and see which images exactly load slower than others. Search for the bars which are longer, and copy the url written next to it. Open the url in a new browser window and you'll see which images should be further optimized.

      I hope this is helpful!

Thank you Noa - I think the difference in our test results is I used Tokyo or the speed test since our user base is predominately SE ASIA. Does that make sense?

Anyway, it is better...4 seconds until the background appears, and before that it is all JS..is there any way to force the background image to load before the JS???

Good Work Wix!! - appreciate the fast response times.

Great news! We are happy to hear you managed to speed up your sites loading time.

In general, please keep in mind that there are two main factors that affect the loading time:

      1. The size of your website

      2. The Internet connection that you have through your ISP

Since we cannot do anything to help your site regarding factor 2, your main goal should

      be optimizing your site's size.

Heavy content such as galleries, video's, HTML coding etc. will cause longer load times.

To ensure that you maintain the quality of your photos and decrease loading time to a minimum, please follow the guidelines  here .

Also please note that each page in your site is loaded separately so that if you have large amounts of media in your site it is recommended to spread it on different pages and not all on one page.

Please elaborate on your last question regarding the loading of your background before the JS.

We are here should you require further assistance.

      Many thanks, Barrios
