If you cannot save your site due to a timeout error, please try the following:
While keeping your editor open, go to wix.com and log out of your account. Then log in again while keeping your editor open, and then try to save again.
 

If it still doesn't work, please wait a few minutes and try to save again.


In most cases this should resolve the issue.


Please post here if you still experience this issue after following the above instructions so that we can investigate the problem.

Our technical team is working hard to solve this issue, and we've made an attempt to fix this about 12 hours ago. If you are receiving this error, and your editor is open for more than 12 hours, I'm afraid you will have to close it, re-log to your Wix account, and try again.
 
If you are still receiving this error, even after loading the editor again, please provide us with the following information:
 
-When loading the editor, and simply pressing save (without any modification) does it save it?
-When making a slight modification to the website, and trying to save it, does it save it?
-Does it stop saving after a certain action you take, or after a time period?
 
Please make sure to answer all these questions when posting new replies here to make sure we can pinpoint and fix this issue as soon as possible.

We're terribly sorry for this issue and it is currently being investigated. If you've tried re-logging to your Wix account and the issue yet persists then I'm afraid that the current work will be lost. Please close your Editor and browser altogether and clear your browser's cache. You can find step by step instructions here. After doing so, please make a 'test save' - a slight change in your Editor (such as adding a paragraph) and attempt to save. Let us know if the error persists.

 

* To avoid future data loss we highly recommend that you save your Wix documents every few minutes while working on it.

    Please HELP!  I am also getting the timeout error message.  Have been getting it for over two weeks.

    I am using

    - Firefox on a PC with AVG Protection. 

    - Firefox and Internet Explorer on another PC Laptop with no AntiVirus

    - and Safari and Firefox on an Apple also no AntiVirus. 

    I have reloaded, tried a tiny test change and save.  But I still get the error message.  I have also gone through the suggested changes for the browsers history and cache files.  Still the same.  Logged out and back in in and still the same.

    I urgently need to make these small changes on each page for our opening times.  Page 1 & two change but for two weeks I have been trying to change the rest with no luck.

      Please try the following two suggestions in order to narrow down the reasons for the issue you've encountered.

       

      1) Open a private tab on your Firefox browser by holding down the CTRL+Shift+P keys on your keyboard. In the new tab that will open up, browse to Wix, log in and edit your site.

       

      2) If the first suggestion has not helped, please test your editor on a different computer which is connected to a different internet connection.

    timeout error

    When I try to save my work it doesn't have any numbers at the end with brackets it just say timeout in bracket what do I do for this I just worked 2 hours on this and forgot to save and I don't want to lose progress please help ASAP thank you

    wont save or publish

    When I make changes to the website and go to save and publish it comes up with the error

    I also have the same problem. I cannot save anything. I only get this message:
    An unexpected error occurred while saving your site data. Please make sure you are logged in to wix.com. If the problem persists please let us know by posting on our support forum (Timeout)
     

    To give a answer to your question:

    -When loading the editor, and simply pressing save (without any modification) does it save it? No, it doesn't.
    -When making a slight modification to the website, and trying to save it, does it save it? No, it doesn't
    -Does it stop saving after a certain action you take, or after a time period? I don't do anything on the pc when I save my site. The saving takes a bit longer than normal before the error comes.

    Hello Wix team,
    Since the last 4 days I've been trying to update my website with no success. Instead, a timeout error message appears, whenever I try to save or publish the recent changes. Please support. 
    Here the full error message: 
    "An unexpected error occurred while saving your site data. Please make sure you are logged in to wix.com. If the problem persists please let us know by posting on our support forum (Timeout)"

    I tried to logout and login to my Wix account, while having the editor open, and still the problem persists.

    I'm using Google Chrome, version 32.0.1700.102 m. (most updated version).

    Please help.

      PS2: Forgot to say that the desired website changes were already saved in the background, altough the error message appears since 4 days. Still, publishing the changes hasn't been possible.

      Hi Tal, it does not save anymore, either I make changes or not.

      Whenever I save, the timeout above timeout message appears.

      Hello Wix Team,

      seriously, it has been 2 weeks. For 2 weeks I've been trying to make an urgent update at my website, and it's been more than a week since your last reply. Many other users must be exactly in the same situation. Are you seriously on top of this? I can't believe that such a widespread problem can persist for so long without an answer from your side.

      Communication is the minimum at these points. Please say where you're at regarding this situation, and if you already see a solution on the horizon.

    Hi,

    It has been over a day and the browser will still not let me save. I followed the instructions 3 times and it still won't work. : ( Please fix it soon. I really need to add some things to my website.

      Hello,

      It has been 4 days now. I have done everything suggested. I still cannot update my site. I am in the middle of job interviews and need to add 2 projects to my portfolio that just came up from nondisclosure agreements. Surprised this error has not been fixed yet. It seems like it is bothering many people. I will be forced to leave this service if not fixed quickly. 

      Please fix soon. I put a lot of work into this website. We are counting on you.

    can't save work

    I can't save my work. It says it cannot save at this time. "Timed Out". I assume I am going to lose everything I have worked on? Very frustrating, I've just spent several hours trying to figure this thing out and now I'm going to lose it. If so, I'm not coming back to wix at all.

    I can't save my web site so cannot publish

    Hi, I have completed all the steps required and edited my web site for publishing it, I am prompted to save my work first, I have followed the instructions but it comes back with 'unable to save' (timeout).

    As a result I cannot publish the web site.....very frustrating!!!! Can you help?

    Hi,

    I have tried all 'the quick fixes' i.e. updated chrome, refreshed Cache, logging in and out etc etc and I am still getting the timed out error message! Please can you give some indication when you expect this error to be fixed???

    I am getting the error message as soon as I log on and press save without making any changes.

      Hi tomedwards001,

       

      That timeout error was caused by the save request taking too long to complete.  The save did happen though in the background.

       

      In this case, refreshing your editor would bring up the new saved editor state.

      Thanks for your response but that is not the case. Any changes I make after the Timed Out error message do not save even after refreshing the editor?

      This is starting to get really frustrating, I assume Wix are no closer to fixing the issue due to the lack of updates despite it affecting so many of your users?
