Wix is compatible with Internet Explorer (version 9 and above), Firefox, Chrome and Safari.

With the new HTML editor we give you option to use the advanced HTML5 technology which entails new capabilities and solutions for your site as well as comprehensive support for mobile devices. However, HTML5 is still a relatively new technology and it not yet fully supported by all browsers. These browsers will catch up with this technology, but to make sure things run smoothly, please make sure to update all your browsers to the most recent versions. You can easily check how well does your current browser support HTML5  here.

To download the latest Google Chrome browser please click here.
To download the latest Firefox browser please click here.
To download the latest Safari browser for Mac please click here.
To download the latest Internet Explorer browser please click here.

You can also check out this site to see a detailed look at which browsers are better optimized for HTML5.

Notes
1. Microsoft does not support IE9 on Windows XP. If you're using Windows XP, we suggest you use another browser. We hope Microsoft will provide a solution for supporting HTML5 in the Windows XP Operating System soon.

You can see Microsoft's answer from their support here as well as a more in-depth explanation from their support forums here.

2. If your viewers use IE8 please find instructions here.

    Hi,

Is it possible to control the detecting of the browser that the viewer is using?

Meaning, if the client wants to be able to control it will this be possible or is it automatic?

(like when having the possibility to view a site in the normal way or optimized to mobile, tablet etc.)

    Thanks.

      For example:

If I'm using my cell...to have the option to view the site the normal way as seen on the PC or to view it in the optimized way with the mobile site built separately.

(like having the option to choose way A or B to view the site in my mobile ro tablet).

      Thanks.

Yes, I too would like to know if I can "downgrade" to HTML4 or whatever was before the "new advanced technology with HTML5" if our viewers are going to have trouble viewing it.

      Hi,

Downgrading your HTML5 site is not possible.

You can choose to create a site using our older Flash based platform.

You can access the Flash templates here.

The way people consume the internet constantly evolves and Wix continues to provide you with a wide variety of solutions for creating your web presence.
With the new HTML editor we give you the choice between technologies as well as designs. Deciding between the two platforms depends on your specific needs: HTML5 provides new technological capabilities and solutions for mobile devices that don’t support Flash, while Flash remains a strong visual platform with a lot of important capabilities that aren’t yet manageable in HTML.

You can also read more about these two options in our Wix blog here.

Please note that Wix is not the only site that requires updated browsers, the  internet constantly evolves and requirements only rise.

Apple devices (iPod, iPads and iPhones) do not support flash, however Mac computers do.

Please keep that in mind when creating your site.

Site Not Displaying Properly on Macs

Hello!  I have created my Wix site, but when I have a look at it on another computer (which is a Mac) it does not look the same ... words are overlapping, paragraphs are not spaced properly etc.  It seems to be okay on other PC's (I'm going to have a look at it on more computers to be sure) but it is not viewing properly on the Mac I was looking at it on.  I created it on a brand new computer that is using Windows 8 ... should my site not appear on other computers exactly the same way it does on my computer?

    Thank you!!

If HTML5 technology may possibly cause problems am I able to not use it and use what was previously available?  I was not given the "option" to use the advanced HTML5 technology when I created the website, it just used it automatically I believe.  If the older version causes less problems with browsers, I'd rather use that, especially since our viewers may not have an updated browser and may not be able to view our site properly.

      Thank you!

      Hi,

I'm sorry to hear you are experiencing difficulties.

This issue is being caused by the way that different browsers (Chrome, Safari, Firefox, IE9, etc.) have decided to interpret and display various HTML5 components. As HTML5 is relatively new technology, there is still no ‘across the board’ conscience between the browsers, how exactly to display HTML5 content.

This means that although your website might look perfect on one browser, within another browser components, such as text boxes, can appear to take up two lines instead of one – and thus knock other components our of alignment with one another.

We are aware if this issue and out technical team are looking towards a fix. For the time being, however, there is a work around that should help to reduce some of the alignment issues you may be experiencing.

By placing un-aligned content within a ‘container’, you are securing several different items within a single shape. Items within a ‘container’ are locked into position and so will not appear to move on their own accord and/or knock other items out of alignment.

Use a Box that is set to appear as transparent (by moving the opacity down to 0) as your ‘container’. Place all of the various components within this Box so that they are ‘attached’ to it. Once within their container, these items are essentially grouped together and will not fall out of alignment.

Please give this solution a shot and notify us if your issue persists.

We also recommend you to try and use different browsers and see if there is any difference.

To download the latest Safari browser please click  here
To download the latest Internet Explorer browser please click  here

You must have chosen an HTML5 template when creating your site.

You can choose between creating an HTML5 based site  here, or using our older Flash based ones  here.

Thanks for your help, I just wish I had been informed of these options or possible challenges before creating my site ... not knowing anything technical about computers etc., it would have been nice to have it explained further when choosing a template (I had no idea there was a difference between creating a Flash website or HTML5 website, I just chose one that seemed to suit my needs and looked like a nice layout).  I just hope that after all of the countless hours I put into designing my new site that it actually works in people's browsers without difficulty ... I certainly wouldn't be recommending creating a website with WIX if it doesn't work properly.

      Hi,

Both of these platforms work properly on most devices.

We have millions of users using each of these technologies!

Some companies (like Apple) have stopped supporting Flash as it is an older technology and the future lies with HTML5 direction.

I can see that both of your websites are HTML5 sites, so your users shouldn't experience any difficulties browsing and viewing them.

I believe that using our platform, you'll be very satisfied with your site.

You are using the Flash editor and a Flash website, it works differently than the html editor.

You can now create a password login for individual pages on your Wix website! To do so:
      1. Go to the Page Manager (right of the editor).
      2. Roll over the Page and click on the drop-down menu arrow.
      3. Click Password from the drop-down menu.
      4. Type in a password and click Set.
Don’t forget to Save your document!

For more information on Pages, click here.

If you meant adding an option to log in to your site with a password - this feature is on our development roadmap and will be built in order of priority. Priority is based on the popularity of our Wishlist items, which is full to overflowing with your good ideas and feedback!

Nope, HTML5 still has issues and is not always compatible with the latest versions of major browsers. My question had NOT been answered yet and I only got a "form" letter/reply (very predictable) and that is why I did some research myself. Thanks anyway.

Here's some info for your reference:

" The newest versions of all major web browsers support only a portion of HTML5's features, and many web users do not even use the latest version of their browser. This means it may be years before millions of users will be able to experience the full feature set of HTML5. On the other hand, the vast majority of browsers on the market fully support Flash today."

I am having a lot of trouble with wix, as my site simply won't load in either Firefox or Chrome, what is the problem. When looking at the DNS in Chrome, it says "error: -105 (ERR_NAME_NOT_RESOLVED)" - I really, really need some help, as I have a paid subscription and will have to cancel it if this can't be resolved.

Sent another request to WIX about why neither CHROME nor FIREFOX will load sites built in WIX.  The www.WIX.com site loads fine.  Sites I've built in Dreamweaver load fine.  Recent sites built in WIX do NOT load at all.  The favicon shows, the site name, etc., but the site NEVER loads.  I've tried several sites built in WIX and none of them will load in Chrome or Firefox.  I have the latest versions of all browsers.  I've also tried these sites on other people's computers using these two browsers with the same result.

I cannot build any more sites in WIX and will need to switch back to Dreamweaver or Wordpress until this gets resolved.  Also, it's frustrating that I can't even get a response from the WIX team on this issue other than the standard HTML5 is new technology that not all browsers support.  That's not an answer as it's worthless to build sites if those who use Chrome and Firefox can't even see the sites.  WIX please fix this problem and also reply with a real answer as this is a serious problem.
