There are two ways to create an image with a transparent background:

1. Starting from scratch:

Within Photoshop, click File > New > In the Background Contents field, choose Transparent

You are free to design whatever elements you require (text, shapes, lines, etc) and they will appear with a transparent background.
When you're done,  Save for Web as a .png file.

2. Existing Image

Within Photoshop, select the part of the image that you want > copy and paste it into a new page in Photoshop > double click on the background to edit the name > change the opacity to 0%.

After you've done this, you should see a checkered box for the background. Click on Save for Web and make sure to save it as a .png file.
Finally, upload it to your Wix editor!

Please also make sure that the image has no skin. Click the image -> Change Style > Edit Style -> choose the first skin called No Skin Photo.

it's a feature in our "to do list" but we can't provide a time frame to when it will be developed.

Will transparency be an option that Wix will add to the HTML editor soon?

Unfortunately we can't provide support for creating images with transparent background for other softwares except Photoshop.

However, you can try following this guide for GIMP.

Hi, I'm new to this whole thing but I have saved images as .png files and they have the checkered background, however, when adding them to Wix images and applying them to my page, they come out with a gray background...I do not have photoshop...I use GIMP or Paint.net and neither has a "Save as web" save option...Anything else I can do short of giving up? I have some great files I'd love to use...

Thanks for the help, Angel :-)

I have tried to save images with transparent backgrounds from both Photoshop and Illustrator in .gif, .jpg and .png. They have the checkered background when I save them from their native files, but show up in Wix.com with a gray background. Help!

    Hi pdeandajr,

The resolution should only be to 72 dpi. Please follow this guide here on how to optimize images for your site.

If i create a background image in photoshop what format should i save it in to get the best resolution. also should I set the resolution to 72 or higher? I want the lines to be sharp and not pixelated. i uploaded a test page using a jpeg file but the quality looks bad. one more thing does the color mode 8bit or 16bit make a difference?
