There are two ways to create an image with a transparent background:

1. Starting from scratch:

Within Photoshop, click File > New > In the Background Contents field, choose Transparent

You are free to design whatever elements you require (text, shapes, lines, etc) and they will appear with a transparent background.
When you're done,  Save for Web as a .png file.

2. Existing Image

Within Photoshop, select the part of the image that you want > copy and paste it into a new page in Photoshop > double click on the background to edit the name > change the opacity to 0%.

After you've done this, you should see a checkered box for the background. Click on Save for Web and make sure to save it as a .png file.
Finally, upload it to your Wix editor!

Please also make sure that the image has no skin. Click the image -> Change Style > Edit Style -> choose the first skin called No Skin Photo.

I used to be able to upload a PNG files with a transparent background. Now when I do this I get a grey background (see attached) Could you please advise. I normally use Adobe Firework but have also tried Photoshop, which both worked before.

Click on the picture -> "Change Style" -> "Edit Style" -> choose the first skin called "No Skin Photo".

Let us know if you still have difficulties with that issue.

    background color

How exactly do you go about setting the background to transparent? Right now I used PowerPoint's remove background tool to remove the white behind the image, but I don't know how to save it in such a way so that it uploads to Wix.com in the same format. Please advise.

I am uploading my logo that is suppose to have a transparent background. I have uploaded png and gif. However, the places that are suppose to be transparent are are showing up white. THis looks horrible. I need this site up and running quick. What is the problem? What needs to be done?

Does the wix site not have the capabilities to handle transparent images?

    Hi there,

I am trying to upload a png file saved for the web with a transparent background in my image loader, but everytime I get an upload error with an invalid file name - I've been trying over an hour, and still can't seem to find anything that works!

    Please help,

      Hey Jolien,

      I apologize for the inconvenience.

Is it just this file, or are you having trouble uploading other images, too?

Please try to change the file name and only use regular characters in the new name (letters a-z and numerals 0-9). If this doesn't work, please send us the file with the upload (the upward pointing arrow) button in your next message, and we will try it on our end.

      Thanks for contacting Wix support.

      1. I have removed the name of the image so (untitled.gif) so that it will not appear when hovered over (I saved the changes but did not publish them).

Regarding the logo, please take a look at the screenshot above and let us know if this is the way that the logo should appear, and if not, please provide us with a the original logo (how it should appear) and a screenshot of the way it appears on your site. You can find step by step instructions on how to add a screenshot here .

Thanks and we await your reply

Yeah, the logo is good, but this is the problem I have in Chrome. Logo is visible in Editor and Preview, but it is transparent in my web browser (when I click on the page www.shastaratura.wix.com/*******).

I was unable to recreate this issue using chrome, the logo appears just as set from the editor.

Just so everyone knows, I tried this for an hour or so before seeing one comment about MAKE SURE YOU UPLOAD IT AS CLIPART FOR THE TRANSPARENCY TO WORK. This is key. After you've saved your file in .png format, go to Add ---> ClipArt, then click on the pic that shows up on your page and select Change Clip Art, then from that window click on the top right button to Upload Files. Upload your Saved for the Web .png file (with an already-transparent background) and voila! The transparent background shows up!

Does anyone know how to create a transparent background using photoscape?  I've tried to find an answer, but I can't seem to get anything to work.   I also don't see where you can choose to upload an image as clip art.  It uploads automatically without a designation.

Thank you for your help.  I've been struggling with this for a while.

Unfortunately, we cannot provide you with any technical support regarding any non Wix software. Please follow the instructions at the top of this thread in order to upload an image with transparent background.

I apologize.  I assumed since other non-Wix softwares were mentioned in this post that it was ok question to ask.

      Thank you.

Hi.  I have created a logo with a transparent background, but it's showing with a white background when I insert it onto my site.  Why???

It was created and saved in Illustrator, as "save for web" png file.  In the editor it is set to 'no frame'.

    See the site here:  http://m01070.wix.com/experiencejordan

Please make sure you have followed the instructions provided above. In addition you can use other softwares such as GIMP.

Please refer to  this link for a tutorial on creating transparent images in GIMP.

Don't forget to upload it as Clip art for the transparent effect to work.

If you need any further assistance, please let us know.

I have followed your advice above.  When I look at the image in the image uploader it doesn't have a background, but when I insert it onto the page, it suddenly gets a white background.

What do you mean "don't forget to upload it as clip art"?  Where is this option?  When I upload a image, it just says select the file, so I select the .png file.  Please actually take a look at the image I'm referring to, rather than just copying and pasting the set answer.  I have already read the advice and wouldn't be contacting you if that had worked.

I checked your site and I saw the white background.

In order to remove this background please click on the image -> from the drop down menu please click on :' Change style '  -> edit style -> click on the opacity button -> change the opacity to zero '.
