A header is the area of your website that appears across the top of your site and appears throughout all of your pages.
The header may contain your site title, company logo and your site menu.

Please note: it isn't possible to delete the header from your site.

I'm also having trouble with my header. I made all of the header contents smaller, so I don't understand why I still can't shorten the height of my header. I can make it as big as I want, but not smaller. It's wayyyy too big and takes up the entire page each time you click on a new menu.

So I have this big gap between my header and page and I can't seem to get rid of it. I can fix it mostly in the editor but when I save and publish my site, it always comes right back. What am I doing wrong? I tried changing the Y axis to 0 but it just changes back once I put the 0 in. Please help!!

    header question

I read this…on your response to one of the above questions...

On another note, I noticed that at the moment some of your site content is intersecting your header and page, which can cause layout problems. Please note your site is divided into three sections: header, page and footer. The header and footer are meant to contain content that needs to appear on all your pages such as navigation, your company logo, etc. The majority of your content should go on your page.

As you can see in the screenshot below, some of your page content is above the horizontal grid line that marks the border between your page and header:

My question is whether i can change the header margin to be smaller…so that the page can appear fully on the screen of a computer/laptop/notebook.

If you want to pull up/down the header, you can just use the handle to resize it.

Hello, I was wondering how can I decrease the length of the header.  I need to shorten the strip as it is taken over too much of the space of the whole layout. I looked everywhere and cant find how. Thanks

The length of the header will always occupy the whole width of the page. You can set the header to white if you like and add an element with the color you like with the desired width.

Please elaborate on your question. Are you referring to the text box in your header or the menu bar itself?

Hi, I have a main title one box on the left in the the header, and I have another box with titles that open other pages(portfolio, about, video, contact)on the right and in the header, but when I click or double click on this box the drop down menu doesn't include an 'edit text' option.

The menu's buttons' names are dictated by the names of your pages. If you would like to change a name, please click on Pages, then on the gear next to the page whose name you would like to change, and in the new window you will have a page name text box.

I need help about header, please!

I made a website that should be a pattern, but the next day the entire site has slipped and disrupted the settings. There is a large space above the header and we can not manage to get it back! It makes me very disappointed. How can I show to anyone???

Can someone help me, PLEASE??? I'm very nervous about it!

This is a picture of the screen. Contact should бе standing on the bottom of the page, bat it is not there. The space above can be stuck to decrease also in the area of the footer. Stars and webmaster login can not move. What should I do?

The header is designed to fit all items in it and therefore will not shrink in a way that won't fit all the items you put in it. In other words, the header’s bottom edge will go up until the bottom of its lowest item but not further. To learn more about the header, click here.

I can see that in your site what makes the header not shrink is  the top strip line. I was able to resolve it by moving the line, bringing the header up, and placing the line back in place.

Please go into your editor and see if you're happy with the results. If so, click publish.

As to your footer, I could see it is shrunk to a very small height.

A footer is the area of your website that appears across the bottom of your site and appears throughout all of your pages. To learn more about the footer click What is a footer?.

Putting items in the footer doesn’t mean just putting them under the bottom gridlines, you need to put them inside the item "footer".

When your footer is very narrow, it cannot contain any items.

Please make your footer bigger by clicking on it, and dragging the "stretch handle" down.

      See screenshot below.

Once your footer is big enough, make sure the items you want to put in it are set to “show on all pages” and then simply drag them into the footer.

After you do so, the footer area would look the same on all pages: right in the bottom of the page.

Should you have any further questions, please let us know! Thanks, Customer Solutions

I checked your site and I saw there is an active contact form on the top right corner of your site.

Do you want to remove this contact form and resize the gap on the top area of your site?

I want that contact stay right at the bottom of the page, where it is now, in the website area, but I want to be visible above the black Wix line. Size can stay the same. I've noticed that I can not click on the button Poruka in the menu in the header and the picture next to it.

From our end it works just fine now, before it malfunctioned, it was white, it was at the bottom and could not be clicked, now it is at the side and it works as it should. If it stays this way you can keep it.

Yes, you can do this by clicking on the header and checking the option "fixed position".

    • Ilia Wix Team

Setting your header or footer to a fixed position will cause it to scroll with your Wix site. As you scroll down the page, the header or footer will scroll with you.

To set your header or footer to a fixed position, click the header or footer to select it > click Settings > check the box next to Fixed Position > click Preview to view your header or footer in a fixed position.

Only elements set to Show On All Pages will appear in a fixed header or footer. For instructions on how to set an element to show on all pages, click here.

Watch the video tutorial below to learn more about this feature.

So, it seems that the header is a recurring issue, because I too, am having problems with it. I just want to adjust it to make it smaller. I can make it as large as I want, but when it comes to shrinking it, I get nothing. What is going on with the stupid thing?

    • Or Wix Team

Replied by Or May 29, 2014

Please note that your site's header can only be as small as the space the items in it take up.

Also note that this element is part of the header:

You can either shrink it or move it to the page itself.

All the best, Or - Wix support team.
