One of the features of a Wix site is that the height of the site's pages does not have a predetermined size. Your pages will adjust their height dynamically according to the content that you add to them. If you add more text or elements, your pages will become longer in order to accommodate them.
To make your page longer, click the element located at the bottom of your page (or any element that you'd like to move downward) and drag if down using the Drag Handle.
To shorten your page, click the element located at the bottom of your page, and resize it using the Stretch Handle or drag it upwards using the Drag Handle.
Currently, the width of your site is fixed at 980px. This size was chosen in order to accommodate the largest number of internet users that will be visiting your site. This is common for the new generation of sites, as it ensures compatibility with the many different smart devices being used today (i.e., iPads or tablets).

Other sites allow for the code for the width of a page to be changed from the bounding area, 980 px here, to a percentage.  It seems like a lot of people want this feature so they can adjust it to 100%.  Is there any hope of getting something like that in the near future?

      Thanks for contacting Wix Support.

As stated in the best reply, the site is fixed to accommodate most of the users that will visit your site.

You can still build outside of the 980px. We suggest that the elements you add off-limits to be purely decorative and not important content for the visitors.

      All best,

    Page length

    Hello WiX,

I must start with saying I love your technology, I spent the last few months trying to understand Wordpress & in the end gave up. I then reluctantly tried using a digital web agency but they simply racked up a bill on tweaking wordpress templates and charged me a few grand for their trouble and I still had nothing to show for it!

Know doubt there are a lot people who have used your service and product which were/are in my position - people having go but have little digital design knowledge and are in need of a website that reflects there Business and products. Like all start up's my funds are tight and after dropping a big chunk of my capital I was quite disenchanted, Until I stumble across your site.

It has taken me a week of nights to build my site. So Stoked! and now I am about to land the my first round of projects. so a Massive Thank You!

My Question is:  I would like to lock the page length after the footer on each page as currently it keeps scrolling - to infinity and beyond!

How do set the height of the page ? I have tried fixing the footer but it doesn't work as the page content on some pages is longer then the screen, can I make the page the same length as the content?

    My site is www.firesprinklersaustralia.com

neither of these links help. my problem is my page keeps scrolling past the footer. it seems as though the page is a full 5000px yet my content only takes up 2000px. its very annoying

I checked your site and I saw the issue you are referring to.

You had a line on the bottom of the footer therefor, you couldn't resize the footer area.

I removed the line from the bottom of the footer and resized the gap.

Please publish your site again in order to update the live site.

Yes I am finding this "feature" quite frustrating.  I was going to come back and try using Wix again for a new revision of my web site, but I am afraid I cannot do so.  Hope this feedback helps.

I'm trying to help my church with their site. My name is Paul Boudreau (boudreaupaul@comcast.net). I've started a copy of the original site so i can show the church leadership what i would like to change and get their approval before implementing the changes.

I've run into a slight problem with the main page of my site "wip-design-tfolc1" (which was copied from "tfolc1"). The bottom after the footer will not shrink up to the proper size and leaves a gap after the footer. How can i get the editor to fix this?

      Hey Rapido,

Actually the gap is still there. Maybe its my computer or the browser im using. I'm not sure. I also have another question

I've developed wip-design-tfolc1 site and it was approved by the leadership. I now want to move it to replace tfolc1. Ideally i want to make a copy of tfolc1 as a backup (which i can do). but i don't know how to apply wip-design-tolfc1 to replace tfolc1

      Can you help with this?

Regarding the gap issue, I checked the site:  "wip-design-tfolc1"  and I saw the gap was removed.

The space you see under the Footer will be replaced with Wix banner after you will publish the site.

You can remove Wix ads by upgrading your site to one of the premium planes.

You can review all the upgrade plans here .

As for the new site, you can transfer your premium plan from one site to another located within the same account.

To transfer your Premium plan to another site:

      1. Sign into Wix.com.
      2. From the menu at the top of the page, hover over Subscriptions and click Premium Plans.
      3. From the Packages tab, under your Premium site, click Transfer.

      4. From the Transfer window that opens, mark the radio dial below the site that you would like to transfer to and click OK.

Ok. i have everything set the way i wanted except 1 thing. I transfered as you described. then i renamed "wip-design-tfolc1" to "tfolc2".

The question i now have is with "tfolc1". The original unlimited site. Is it possible to "unpublish" it? I'd rather it wasn't out there published. I don't want to delete it. i just want to unpublish

If you want to unpublish your site, you can choose to hide it from search engines.

To hide your site from search engines: From the left side of the Editor, click Settings > click SEO (Google) > click the toggle Allow search engines to find my site to turn this option off (change from green to red) > click Done.

Once you have clicked the toggle be sure to hit Save inside your Editor!

Note: If you would like to temporarily remove your site from the web completely, you can place a notification on your home page and say it is under construction. Click here to learn how.

If you would like us to unpublish the site for you please just confirm that you would like the site tfolc1 unpuclished.

Let us know if you need additional assistance.

I was able to drag your footer upwards most of the way.

If you are not able to, that is usually because there is an element blocking its way.

In order to locate/ select  transparent or out of reach elements (like this one) in your editor simply click anywhere on your site and then press and hold CTRL and repeatedly press M to move one by one through your page's elements.

    Hi there,

I am trying to assign elements to the header and footer of my site. Right now I have some blank space between my page and my footer, and I believe unassigned (or incorrectly assigned) elements are the culprit. (See screen shot below.)

Unfortunately, your interactive tutorial at the top of this thread, the "Nicola Rider" site (http://www.wix.com/support/main/html5/getting-started/creating-website-scratch-blank-templates/containers) loads with a 404 error message. I've tried on both Chrome and Safari.

Can you please explain how to assign elements to headers and footers after the've already been created and perhaps assigned to the incorrect part of the page? Thanks!

I think I've figured out how to assign elements to my header and footer, but I'm still having trouble getting rid of my blank space. There are no hidden elements, and I am not allowed to manually change the y coordinates for my footer boundary. Any way to get rid of my blank space? Thanks!

      Hi there,

Thanks for the response. I was able to decrease the gap but not eliminate it entirely, unfortunately. On my website, every page except "Consulting" and "Home" has about 150px of blank space that I cannot remove from the bottom of the page above the footer. ("Home has about 100px of blank space.) Any idea why I can't drag the footer up higher to remove that space?

Maybe there is a minimum length of 500px for pages? I can't seem to get them shorter than that length. If so, this is pretty inconvenient.

    • Ira Bel Wix Team

Replied by Ira Bel June 28, 2014

Indeed, there is a minimum page height of 500px.

We can see that there is no blank space between the footer and the page area.

The space is only on the page area itself. Unfortunately it is not possible to make the page area smaller.

      Hi Shyam,

I've visited your site and noticed that you have built your site outside the gridlines.

We highly recommend staying within the gridlines in order for your site to appear correctly on mobile devices and small screens.

In order to fix this issue, all you need to do is to narrow your site such that all your content will be in the "pages" section.

I suggest you to take a few minutes and go through this tutorial about the Header, Page and Footer components. These are the basic containers to your site and better understanding how they work will help you in resolving the current issues.

Also, for more information you can read about: What are the gridlines on my Wix site?

Hope it helps! For further assistance, we will be happy to help.

      Thanks, Rony

"Currently, the width of your site is fixed at 980px."

This is intensely irritating for display on 1920 x 1080 screens. Using automatic window arrangement (left/right hand half of screen) and viewing pages at 100% results in a pointless out-of-view side area with a side scroll bar displayed.

For companies targeting people behind real computers, it would be great to enable variable width pages so we can lose the side-scroll bar.
